Medical Education in Nepal

MBBS duration just like India: In Nepal, medical studies start at undergraduate level. The program is of five and half year’s duration. The first two years of studies are called “Basic Sciences” followed by two and half years of “Clinical Sciences” and one year of internship. After the successful completion of this course, a student is awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree.

The CMS – Bharatpur Nepal is the first private medical college (after three Government medical colleges in Nepal), established by Sri Nagender, K Pampati and Dr Natraj Prasad – all from Andhra Pradesh.

The college has also liaison with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, (AFRIMS) Bangkok, Thailand. Joint research projects related to local health problems are already undertaken in collaboration with of these institutions. The college has been already extending cooperation to the local practicing medical Professionals, private hospitals and NGOs. The College has been actively participating in Government Health Service programs eg the Family Welfare Planning , Ophthalmic Care, Immunisation, Tuberculosis control etc.

Academic Programs and Session

1. The first MBBS batch graduated in 2001 and since then the college has produced 14 batches of MBBS doctors so far. Most of the graduates are already enrolled in post graduation and super-specialisation programs in different renowned national and international institutes.

Their scores are commendable in USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK). They also passed their MCI Screening Test with 100% success rates.

  • The CMS is the first medical college in Nepal to have 150 admissions at a stretch from August, 2007 as recommended by the Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical Council.
  • First private medical college to start and to have all the PG courses (MD/MS/MSc).
  • First institution to start DM & MCh post doctoral courses in Nepal from 2009.
  • BDS program started in 2011.

Travel Information

You can come to Bharatpur by air or by road.

Air:

  • International flights to Kathmandu and domestic flights from Kathmandu to Bharatpur. (Flying time - 15 minutes).
  • Passport or Voter ID card is necessary for entry to Nepal if travelling by air.
  • The domestic airport is at walking distance from the college which may take approximately 5 minutes.

 Road/Railways:

  • From Bihar: Raxual is the Nearest Railway station, 120 Kms
  • From UP: Gorakhpur is the Nearest Railway station, 210 Kms
  • From Northeast: New Jalpaigudi Railway station, approx 400Kms
  • No documents are necessary by road. 
  • Indian denomination notes of Rs 500 or Rs 1000 are banned in Nepal.
