Positioned as a high-quality yet moderately priced alternative to other international boards, WACE offers comprehensive K-12 education. Over the next three years, WACE aims to onboard 100 schools across India, expanding students’ choices in the school education ecosystem.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has formally granted foreign board equivalence to the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), a senior secondary curriculum from the Government of Western Australia. This marks a historic milestone as WACE becomes the first international government-backed school board to receive official recognition and prepare for launch in Indian schools.

Positioned as a high-quality yet moderately priced alternative to other international boards, WACE offers comprehensive K-12 education. Over the next three years, WACE aims to onboard 100 schools across India, expanding students’ choices in the school education ecosystem.

About WACE: A Globally Trusted Curriculum

WACE is administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), a statutory body of the Western Australian Government. With more than 37 years of experience delivering education in over 16 countries including Singapore, China, Japan, and Malaysia, WACE is known for its future-ready curriculum. The program emphasizes academic depth, skill development, and smooth pathways to global universities.

Angelique Smith, Principal Consultant at SCSA, highlighted, “For over 36 years, WACE has empowered students across continents with the tools to succeed in higher education and beyond. With AIU equivalence granted in India, we are proud to partner with Indian schools to offer a globally recognized curriculum that nurtures inquiry, adaptability, and academic excellence.”

Transforming Indian Education: Alignment with NEP 2020

The introduction of WACE aligns closely with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals. WACE promotes competency-based, inquiry-driven learning, moving beyond rote memorization towards fostering critical thinking, creativity, and real-world applications. The curriculum supports holistic and formative assessment, incorporating school-based evaluations, practical projects, and moderated grading to reduce exam stress while ensuring effective learning outcomes.

Additionally, SCSA commits to ongoing teacher training and curriculum support, fulfilling NEP’s emphasis on continuous professional development and innovative teaching methods. Currently, around 30 teachers are undergoing specialized training workshops in Bangalore on WACE curriculum delivery and pedagogy.

Academic and Career Benefits for Indian Students

WACE students receive the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), a globally recognized university entrance score used by prestigious universities in Australia, the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Thanks to AIU’s recognition, Indian students completing the WACE curriculum now have full Grade XII equivalence, allowing seamless admission into Indian universities alongside international institutions.

Syed Sultan Ahmed, Chairman of TAISI and Advisor to WACE India on International Curriculum Integration, stated, “The AIU’s recognition of WACE is a transformative moment for the Indian school education system. It affirms the credibility of the Western Australian curriculum and opens new academic and career pathways for Indian students, both in India and globally.”

The arrival of WACE as an officially recognized foreign curriculum brings fresh opportunities to Indian education. With its government backing, affordable pricing, global recognition, and alignment with NEP 2020, WACE promises to enrich the educational landscape by offering students a modern, skill-oriented, and globally accepted pathway to higher education.
