CBSE News Today

Court of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) has asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to ensure that students with disabilities receive the necessary help during the examination. As a part of this decision, the court has directed CBSE to provide special students with computers and calculators for the CBSE 2026 Board Exams. The ruling supports the principle of "reasonable accommodation" under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

CCPD Overruled CBSE: What's the Case?

Reportedly, a Class 10 student diagnosed with dyscalculia (difficulty with numbers) and dysgraphia (impairment in written expression) has requested CCPD to take necessary actions after not being allowed to use a computer and a calculator during the CBSE board exam 2026. The CBSE initially offered only a calculator. However, the CCPD interfered, saying that refusing computer access breaks the student's right to an equitable testing environment.

CBSE Board Exam 2026: What's New for Special Students?

Under the new initiative and existing CBSE CWSN guidelines, eligible candidates can:
  • Use basic calculators for students with learning disabilities like dyscalculia.
  • Access computers or laptops (without internet) for writing exams.
  • Have scribes, readers, and extra time for those with more than 40% disability.

The court has also directed CBSE to ensure that the necessary aid shall be provided to students. An action report should also be submitted by the CBSE within 90 days regarding the action taken for the aforementioned students.
