Alongside the launch of CM Shri Schools, the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) will be gradually phased out. According to the minister, schools currently affiliated with DBSE will now transition to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), aligning with national education standards and examinations.

The Delhi government has provisionally shortlisted schools to be upgraded into the 75 newly announced CM Shri Schools, which are expected to become functional in the coming weeks. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood confirmed the development, stating, “Most of the CM Shri Schools have been shortlisted. These schools will start functioning soon, and preparations to operationalise them are currently underway.”

DBSE to be Phased Out; Schools to Shift to CBSE

Alongside the launch of CM Shri Schools, the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) will be gradually phased out. According to the minister, schools currently affiliated with DBSE will now transition to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), aligning with national education standards and examinations.

Green Campuses with Cutting-Edge Tech

The upcoming schools are being designed to be sustainable and zero-waste. An education department official revealed that the campuses will be solar-powered, and will include AI-enabled libraries, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools in classrooms, smartboards, and biometric attendance systems.

Robotics Labs and Smart Infrastructure

Each CM Shri School will house a robotics laboratory to encourage innovation and hands-on learning in the tech field. The initiative is part of the government’s push to integrate advanced STEM education and future-ready skills in the public school ecosystem.

INR 100 Crore Budget Allocation

According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Budget 2024-25 speech, a budget of INR 100 crore has been allocated for the establishment of the CM Shri Schools. The model is inspired by the PM Shri Schools run by the central government and will adhere to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2023.

Recruitment Drive for Teaching & Leadership Roles

The Directorate of Education has begun recruitment for teachers and school leaders for the new institutions. A circular issued on June 5 invited applications from PGTs, TGTs, and PRTs who have at least five years left before retirement. Another circular on June 10 called for principals and vice-principals meeting the same retirement condition to transfer to CM Shri Schools.
