The Delhi government decision comes ahead of the May 4 pan-India exams for classes 10 and 12 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The Delhi government has allowed schools to reopen for students of classes 10 and 12 from coming Monday, i.e. January 18. The schools will reopen to conduct activities pertaining to pre-board preparation and practical work. However, attendance for students will be kept optional.
In a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) today said, βIn order to conduct the activities pertaining to pre-board preparations and practical work, the head of government, aided and unaided recognised schools may call the students of class 10 and class 12 only to school with effect from January 18, 2021."
The government further added that while the records of students coming to school will be maintained, the same will not be used for attendance purposes as sending the child to school is completely optional for parents.
It was cleared that, only schools outside containment zones will be allowed to reopen. Students, teachers, and staff living in the containment zones will not be allowed to attend. The schools have been asked not to hold any assembly and physical outdoor activities, the statement added. The principals have been asked to guide children not to share books, copies, and other stationery items.
Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across India have been closed since March last year in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
