Gurugram DDMA has ordered all schools to hold online classes on September 2 after IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rain. Offices asked to shift to work-from-home as city reels under waterlogging.
Gurugram District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has ordered all schools in the district to hold online classes on September 2, 2025, following an Orange Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
On September 1, Gurugram witnessed over 100 mm of rain in just four hours on Monday evening, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic snarls. Areas including NH-48, Badshahpur, Sohna, and Manesar were among the worst affected.
In its advisory, the Gurugram DDMA has also asked corporate offices and private institutions to allow employees to work from home to avoid disruptions and ensure public safety.
The precautionary measures come as Haryana recorded its wettest August in 20 years, with Gurugram receiving 24% above-normal rainfall. The IMD has warned that the wet spell is likely to persist into the first week of September.
