Maharashtra HSC, SSC Board Exams: State to Introduce Bridge Course in Revised Syllabus; Check Details

Maharashtra State Board will launch a bridge course to help students transition smoothly to the new curriculum, ensuring continuity and reducing learning gaps under the revised education policy.

Maharashtra HSC, SSC Exam: The Maharashtra State Board is going to present a bridge course for students shifting to the new NCERT-based curriculum, which will be carried out in stages till 2029. According to the amended government resolution (GR) the SCERT will establish this course to assist students in adjusting to the changes.  The Maharashtra Board bridge course will be introduced in all classes to enable an effortless transition and minimise learning gaps.

β€œWith the new curriculum being implemented for the first time, a bridge course for all grades should be prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training and used as necessary in all grades.” The Government Resolution highlights. 

NCERT-Based Curriculum to Be Introduced in Phases Till 2029

The Maharashtra State Board is going to introduce a new curriculum based on NCERT textbooks to meet the state's educational requirements. The SCERT will create the syllabus, which will begin with Class 1 in the academic year 2025-26. Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6 will begin implementing the new syllabus in 2026-27. Classes 5, 7, 9, and 11 will be implemented the following year (2027-28).  Finally, in 2028-29, the new Maharashtra Board curriculum will be introduced in Classes 8, 10, and 12. This sequential strategy allows a smooth curriculum transition for all grades, as per media reports.

Existing 10+2 System to Replace 

According to the government resolution (GR), and in accordance with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Maharashtra will replace the old 10+2 system with the new 5+3+3+4.  The Foundational Stage comprises the three years of Balvatika, as well as Classes 1 and 2. The Preparatory Stage will include Classes 3–5, followed by the Pre-Secondary Stage for Classes 6–8. The Secondary Stage will cover Classes 9 to 12.
