National Award to Teachers 2025: The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has officially opened nominations for the National Awards to Teachers 2025, inviting higher educational institutions and polytechnics across India to submit their recommendations. The last date to file nominations for the National Award to Teachers 2025 is July 9, 2025.

Educational institutions can file nominations via the Ministry of Education’s official awards portal at awards.gov.in.

Recognizing Excellence in Higher Education

According to the ministry’s official notification, the award aims to “recognise and honour the unique and path-breaking achievements of faculty members” in areas such as:

  • Teaching-learning practices
  • Community outreach
  • Institutional service
  • Research contributions
  • Novel work in higher education

Who Can Nominate and Be Nominated?

Both institutions and individual teachers may self-nominate for the award. The following individuals are eligible to nominate:

  • Former or current Vice-Chancellors, Directors, Principals, Faculty members, or Colleagues from the same institution as the nominee.
  • Members of Search-cum-Screening Committees can also nominate deserving faculty on their own initiative.

Important: Members of the award jury are not eligible to make nominations.

Award Categories and Benefits

A total of 35 awards will be conferred annually:

  • 25 awards in Category 1: Faculty from colleges, universities, and higher education institutions
  • 10 awards in Category 2: Faculty from polytechnic institutions

Each awardee will receive:

  • A medal
  • A certificate
  • A cash prize of INR 50,000

National Award to Teachers 2025: Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, nominees must:

  • Be regular faculty members at recognized institutions.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Be aged 55 or below as of July 9, 2025.
  • Not hold a position as Vice-Chancellor, Director, or Principal (regular or officiating).

National Award to Teachers 2025: Selection Process

The selection involves two stages:

  1. Preliminary shortlisting by a Search-cum-Screening Committee.
  2. Final selection by a Jury from the shortlisted candidates.

National Award to Teachers 2025 Ceremony Date

The winners of the National Awards to Teachers 2025 will be honored at a special ceremony on September 5, 2025, commemorating Teachers’ Day in India.
