The TN Class 12 public exams 2025 are set to begin from March 3, 2025. Students must ensure they download their TN 12th hall tickets 2025 and familiarize themselves with the new exam pattern and marks distribution.

The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Tamil Nadu has released the hall tickets for TN Class 12 private students who will be appearing for the 2025 public exams. Students can now download their hall tickets from the official website, dge.tn.gov.in, by using their application number and date of birth. The TN 12th public exams will be conducted from March 3 to March 25, 2025.

New Exam Pattern for TN Class 12 Public Exams 2025

The Tamil Nadu State Board has introduced a new exam pattern for both private and regular students. Each subject in the Class 12 public exam will carry 70 or 90 marks, and students will have to follow the newly structured marking scheme.

Private students who had previously failed the exams based on the old syllabus (where each subject was out of 200 marks) will have to reappear in the equivalent subject under the new syllabus.

Mandatory Practical Exam: Passing Criteria

To pass a subject with a practical exam, students will need to:

  • Score at least 15 marks out of 70 in the written exam
  • Attend and participate in the practical exam
  • Secure a minimum of 35 marks (combined from the written exam, internal assessment, and practical exam)

If a student passes the written exam but does not appear for the practical exam, they will have to reappear for the practical exam alone.

Clarifications on Marking Scheme for Failed Students

The Tamil Nadu board has clarified the marks distribution for students who failed the public exam in the past. The English and language paper has been integrated into a single paper since March 2018. Previously, this exam was split into Paper 1 (100 marks) and Paper 2 (80 marks).

For those who failed and appeared for the single 90-mark exam, their 90 marks will be converted into 180 marks by multiplying by 2, and 20 marks will be added for learning/listening. This will lead to a total of 200 marks.

Marking Scheme for Supplementary Students

Private students who failed or missed non-practical subjects in the old syllabus will now have to appear for exams following the new pattern. The marking scheme for such students is as follows:

  • If a student scores X marks out of 90 in a subject, their result will be calculated by multiplying their score by 200/90.
  • In subjects with practical exams, if a student scores X marks out of 70, it will be converted to 150 marks (X/70 * 150).

Special Test for Listening/Speaking Skills

Students who missed the Listening/Speaking skill test for the language paper must attend the test on the specified date. Failure to appear for this test will result in the loss of 20 marks.
