Despite the economic slowdown caused due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown imposed to contain it, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam has recorded 100 per cent summer placements for its MBA batch of 2020-2022. With the highest stipend at Rs 2 lakh, the stipend for the top quartile stood at Rs 1.17 lakh and the top 10 percentile at Rs 1.46 lakh. This represents an increase of 20.4 per cent in the average stipend as compared to Rs 62,264 offered last year.

Held on a rolling basis, the IIM V summer placement season witnessed more than 50 companies participating in the process and making multiple offers. As per the IIM Visakhapatnam officials, these figures have broken all the previous records of the institute and have set new benchmarks.

IIM Vishakhapatnam, Director Professor M Chandresekhar said that it is a fitting recognition of the talent of the students of the institute.

“The record-breaking performances do not come as a surprise as the students of IIM V have been regularly winning several pan-India competitions held by reputed business schools. We, at IIM V, are very confident that the recruiters will find immense value in the contribution by the interns of the institute,” he said.

Professor Saroj Kumar Pani said that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute has increased the breadth of recruiters as well as the depth of roles for its summer internship programme. “This was made possible as we gave importance to matching a student’s abilities and interests to the recruiters’ requirements. Ultimately, it will be a win-win situation for our students as well as recruiters,” he said.
