The varsity recently decided to provide only three hours to its undergraduate, UG and postgraduate, PG students to answer the papers for online final semester examinations from home.
Calcutta University Final Year Exams 2020: According to the latest update, Calcutta University would be conducting the final year exams from October 1, 2020. The terminal semester or final year exams for UG, PG students would end on October 18, 2020. The official reports also suggest that the results would be declared on October 31, 2020. The varsity recently decided to provide only three hours to its undergraduate, UG and postgraduate, PG students to answer the papers for online final semester examinations from home. However, earlier, the reports suggested that the varsity would be providing 24 hours but now the exams would be conducted in 3 hours. This year, the students would get the question papers through online medium, that is, through emails or WhatsApp.
The University official stated that, "It has been decided that students in both UG and PG levels will write their papers in three hours. To address any possible network glitches, half an hour to one hour time will be allotted," the official said. The Calcutta University would soon be issuing a notification in this regard, he further said.
An emergency meeting was conducted by the University on September 19 after the UGC expressed its objections to providing the candidates 24 hours for writing papers, which was tantamount to open book consultation. Earlier, the West Bengal government had said that the final semester exams will have to be conducted by universities between October 1 and 18 and the results will have to be published by October 31. However, after the emergency meeting, the VC informed, "The earlier decision of the university senate for evaluation based on 80-20 ratio (previous semester performance and internal assessment) will not be valid anymore".
The Supreme Court had decided that no student can be awarded a degree without him/her passing in the final year/ semester exams. The court also stated that in case any state feels it can't conduct exams by September 30, it must approach the UGC for new dates.
