COVID-19 lockdown: Jawaharlal Nehru University to remain shut until May 17
With the extension of the COVID-19 lockdown in order to contain the novel coronavirus, the Jawaharlal Nehru University released an official notification regarding the further extension of the closure of the university.
With the extension of the COVID-19 lockdown in order to contain the novel coronavirus, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) released an official notification regarding the further extension of the closure of the university. The University announced the suspension of the classes on March 19 due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country.
The University released three notices in the past to inform the extension of the closure following the guidelines issued by the government of India. Now, another notice is released by the University following the orders issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. On May 1, 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs officially declared the beginning of the third phase of the COVID-19 lockdown in India. Following the guidelines issued by the MHA of India, Jawaharlal Nehru University decided to further extend its closure. According to the notice, the University will be closed until May 17, 2020.
Informing the students about the extension, the University stated, “In continuation of the office notifications dated 19. Mach. 2020, 1st & 14th April 2020, it is brought to the notice of all that in view of the Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-I (A) dated 1st May. 2020 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the University shall remain closed till May 17, 2020. Students are required to stay back where they are and should not return to the campus until further notice.”

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in India are 42,505, claiming 1,391 lives so far. The decision to extend the lockdown further is taken in order to contain the virus spread.
