Meanwhile, the language courses and smaller departments that are not offering honours courses will close down and the students can choose to exit from the courses after the first and second year and they will get a certificate and diploma respectively. However, an official decision on the same is yet to be taken.

DU Admissions 2020: Delhi University is mulling to introduce a four-year undergraduate course as part of the implementation of the new National Education Policy. However, according to the latest reports, DU teachers association is opposing the move. In September 2020 the university formed a committee to formulate the guidelines for implementing the new NEP which was announced in June.

The reports suggest that an official of the university informed that the committee members last week received an email regarding the courses to add to their guidelines which include four-year undergraduate courses. Earlier, the university introduced the four-year undergraduate programmes in 2014 which was however scrapped by the government after huge protests by students and teachers in 2014.

Officials further added that the students will not get an honours degree in three years. According to the proposed plan, honours courses will be recast into majors in four years. Meanwhile, the language courses and smaller departments that are not offering honours courses will close down and the students can choose to exit from the courses after the first and second year and they will get a certificate and diploma respectively. However, an official decision on the same is yet to be taken.

Many of the teachers at the university stated that DU will repeat the mistake by implementing four-year programmes again. Academic Council member, Seema Das while speaking about the four year programme stated that the suggestions are not to reduce the number of core papers up to the third year, considering that in the fourth year and if a student is expected to do research the knowledge of core papers will provide the foundation necessary for conducting the said research.
