Delhi University releases advisory for hostel residents to stay safe amid COVID-19 Surge
The University of Delhi has arranged a help desk for residents along with a list of doctors who can be consulted for medical needs.
The University of Delhi (DU) released an important advisory for its hostel residents. Amid the ongoing pandemic situation, DU released the advisory suggesting its hostel residents to avoiding closed spaces, eat a balanced diet, watching out for COVID-19 symptoms and more. The varsity expressed its concerns towards the wellbeing of the students and staff members who live and work very close together in hostels and “urged them to follow the measures which are critical to keep the transmission rates of the virus low.”
Advising students to vacate the hostels as close contact poses a grave threat of disease transmission, DU said hostel authorities must earmark rooms for self-isolation. The advisory read, "We hope the students will return to their native place and continue their academic activity remotely. At the same time, we recognise that some students are unable to return and need to stay on," it said.
The advisory also asked students to make sure their rooms well ventilated and should avoid closed, confined spaces at all costs.
"Students should watch out for symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, nausea, running nose, headache, difficulty in breathing, diarrhea. In case they develop any of these symptoms, they should contact hostel authorities or their local health provider for advice," it added.
Asking students to quarantine and self-isolate if any symptoms of the novel coronavirus appear, DU said, "The hostel administration must be informed immediately about the positive test results so isolation of the affected person can be arranged preferably with separate dining and bathroom facilities. A help desk for students has been arranged for residents along with a list of doctors who can be consulted for medical needs.
