The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has released revised guidelines for students including corrections in the name of students and other information in the statement of marks, grade cards and provisional certificates.

As per the notification released by IGNOU, “The request of students for correction in the names, spelling, father’s name, guardian’s name, address printed in the statement of marks and certificates after competition of programme will also be entertained even though the degree certificate has already been issued.”

Students must note that they will have to pay Rs 500 as a fee for change/ corrections in the statement of marks, grade cards, provisional certificates for 31st convocation onwards. Similarly, a fee of Rs 1500 will be charged for the corrections in such documents from the first convocation to the 30th convocation.

“However, if it is established that there is a mistake in name etc on part of the university, no fee for this purpose will be charged from the students. The students will have to return the grade card/ provisional and degree certificate is issued with the previous name,” the notification added.

IGNOU Guidelines

Students can check the list of guidelines released by IGNOU below:

  • Minor correction in spelling of student’s name/father’s name: Self-attested copy of Class 10 certificate issued by the recognised Board of Education/ Aadhaar card
  • Change in the full name: Newspaper cuttings (in original) as proof of the advertisement published with regard to change in name in at least two Indian leading daily newspapers. The affidavit, in original, on non-judicial stamp paper of appropriate value sworn in before first class Magistrate specifying the change in the name.
  • Change in address: Aadhaar card/ any other document issued by the government/ government organisation.
