IIT Kanpur Expands Digital Skills Programme to 900 Secondary School Teachers Across Uttar Pradesh

IIT Kanpur has expanded its DLCCAI programme to train 900 secondary school teachers from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh in digital literacy, AI, computational thinking and technology-enabled teaching.

IIT Kanpur Updates: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has expanded its Digital Literacy & Computational Thinking Concepts for Teachers (DLCCAI) programme to secondary education level. Under this initiative, 900 secondary school teachers from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh will receive training in digital literacy, computational thinking, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology-enabled teaching.

This programme is being conducted in collaboration with Government of Uttar Pradesh and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Prof. Ramkumar J., Coordinator of the DLCCAI Programme, Prof. Satyaki Roy, Head and Academic Head, DLCCAI, and Prof. Vimal Kumar, Professor-in-Charge, OOA, IIT Kanpur, are leading the expansion of the programme.

IIT Kanpur DLCCAI Programme for Teachers

This eight-week blended programme will be conducted in six batches, with 150 participants in each batch. The training will combine classroom sessions at IIT Kanpur with online learning, mentoring and practical assignments. Teachers participating in this programme will be introduced to several digital and technology-related areas. 

These include digital tools, cybersecurity, Scratch, Python, Artificial Intelligence, EdTech and Robotics. The programme will focus on practical applications so that teachers can use these skills in classroom teaching as well as in their academic work. The initiative builds on IIT Kanpur's earlier training programme for 750 primary school teachers. The training helped teachers use technology-supported learning methods, benefiting more than 10,000 students.

DLCCAI curriculum has also been incorporated into SCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 8. Through these textbooks, curriculum is estimated to reach around 48 lakh students across Uttar Pradesh. Videos showcasing experiences of teachers who participated in earlier programme were also presented.

The expansion of the programme is aligned with objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to help teachers develop the skills and confidence needed to introduce digital and computational concepts into classroom learning and prepare students for a technology-driven environment.
