JNUSU is holding protests against various issues related to infrastructure and hostels. In a letter to the JNU VC Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, the student's union claimed that the DoS officials have locked students inside the office and are denying basic necessities to even use the washrooms. The Union will continue with the sit-in unless a concrete response is received from the Dean of Students (DoS) Office.

JNUSU holds protest against infrastructure issues, demand immediate allotment of hostels to first-year students

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has planned a protest today; i.e. April 25, 2023 outside the Dean of Students (DoS) office. JNUSU is holding protests against various issues related to infrastructure and hostels. In a letter to the JNU VC Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, the student's union claimed that the DoS officials have locked students inside the office and are denying basic necessities to even use the washrooms. The Union will continue with the sit-in unless a concrete response is received from the Dean of Students Office.

Anagha Pradeep, Counsellor of JNUSU, in a letter to the VC raised that, "The main concern is hostel allotment for all students, particularly first-year students who are yet to be allotted a hostel room, despite already being six months into their course." Along with this, the letter also highlighted the other demands of the students including the conduct of JNUSU elections, the opening of Barak Hostel, addressing the water crisis in hostels, ensuring Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarships, and creating a campus that is accessible and friendly to students with disabilities.

The students’ union in the letter mentioned that it has been more than 24 hours that a detailed request for the hostel allotment for first year batches have been sent to DoS. Until now, no concrete response has been received from students.
