The new NEP 2020 will empower students and provide a path to make India a developed, digital and self-reliant country as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Education Minister said.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank the new National Education Policy (NEP) enables the intellectual development of the youth to deal with the challenges of a fast-changing world.  "The government has made a great effort to bring significant changes in the education system keeping in mind the rapidly changing world and future challenges and needs. The New Education Policy has presented a new framework for the intellectual development of the country's youth," Nishank said at a programme via video conference at IIT Roorkee.

He hoped that the new NEP 2020 will empower students and provide a path to make India a developed, digital and self-reliant country as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Describing IIT-Roorkee as one of the oldest technical institutions in Asia, Nishank said it should come up with viable solutions to reduce human-animal conflicts. "IIT-Roorkee is based in the Himalayan region that is endowed with great biodiversity. However, human-animal conflicts have become common in this region," he said. He appealed to students and researchers at the premier institute to also contribute to scientific social responsibility. 

Union Education Minister has e-inaugurated the newly constructed infrastructure facility at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee today. The inauguration ceremony was hosted virtually where the Lecture Hall Complex, Centralized Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning Plant (HVAC) and Sewage Treatment Plant, STP facilities will be unveiled by the minister.

IIT Roorkee is the seventh IIT institution to be established among the IIT group of institutions. The university campus is spread over an area of 25 acres. It also has another campus in Greater Noida which was opened in 2011. Presently, the university owns four departments. IIT Roorkee was ranked 6 for engineering as per NIRF 2019. Internationally, IIT Roorkee was ranked 383 in the QS World University Rankings of 2020.
