Union Ministry of Education will announce National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 Rankings tomorrow, on September 4. Annual list of institutions covers major categories such as Engineering, Medical, Management, Law, and Overall performance. In 2024, Rankings were announced under 16 categories with addition of Open University, Skill University and State Public University.
NIRF Rankings are more than a rank list, for institutions it brings national level visibility and higher credibility in academic circles.
Engineering: IIT Madras’ Unbroken Streak
In Engineering category, IIT Madras has maintained its number one position in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Institute’s consistency reflects its edge in research, faculty quality, and outcomes year after year.
Medical: AIIMS Delhi Stays Untouched
For Medical education, AIIMS Delhi has been undisputed leader, holding number 1 rank in both 2023 and 2024. Institutes such as PGIMER Chandigarh and CMC Vellore often follow closely, but AIIMS continues to be most aspirational destination for NEET candidates.
Management (MBA): IIM Ahmedabad vs Bengaluru Rivalry
Management rankings are closely watched by MBA aspirants preparing for CAT. Here, contest has largely been between IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bengaluru. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, IIM Ahmedabad held number 1 position, while IIM Bengaluru remained close behind. IIM Kozhikode has also steadily climbed, cementing its place among top three.

NEET counselling seat matrix refers to the number of seats offered across the participating institutes for each course. The seat matrix is released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) before the commencement of the counselling process. The seat matrix is released in institute-wise categories for the types of institutes, such as Deemed universities, AIIMS & JIPMER, etc. For NEET 2025 counselling, the primary seat matrix released by MCC for Round 1 was of for Deemed University, Central University, BSc Nursing and AIQ seats. Placements at IIT Madras are good. According to the placement report 2025 released, median and average package recorded during BTech CSE placements was 46 LPA and 53.2 LPA. In BTech EE, the median and average salary offered was 22.5 LPA and 28.8 LPA. In ME, MM and PH branch, the average package stood at 16.9 LPA, 18.4 LPA and 34.1 LPA.
Universities and Overall Rankings: IISc and IIT Madras Lead
In Overall category of NIRF India Rankings, IIT Madras was ranked best institution in 2024, reflecting its multidisciplinary strength across engineering, research, and innovation. Meanwhile, IISc Bengaluru continued to dominate the University category, underlining its reputation as India’s leading hub for advanced research and postgraduate education.
