Pondicherry University to remain closed from April 23 to 27 amid rise in COVID-19 cases
As a precautionary measure to prevent spread of the scourge, the University will remain closed till April 27 from today. The varsity has also requested students staying in hostels to vacate and return home.
Pondicherry University has announced that it will remain closed from April 23 to 27 after a section of staff and faculty members tested positive for COVID-19. A release from the Registrar in charge of the Pondicherry University said that some of the students had also been found to be infected by the virus at the end of examination of samples.
As a precautionary measure to prevent spread of the scourge, the University will remain closed till April 27 from today. The varsity has also requested students staying in hostels to vacate and return home.
Earlier, the Pondicherry University had postponed all the theory and practical exams in its affiliated colleges until further notice amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country. These exams were scheduled to begin from April 19. The decision to postpone examinations has been made in view of the COVID-19 situation, an official statement said. The revised dates will be announced later.
“AII theory and practical examinations of Pondicherry University affiliated colleges scheduled from 19th April 2020 are postponed till further orders due to COVID-19 pandemic. The revised date will be announced later,” the official notification read.
Along with Pondicherry University, several other universities, colleges across the country have postponed the exams and shut their campuses amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Schools and educational institutions have also been directed to opt for online classes owing to the COVID-19 crisis. Many Universities, and educational institutions have closed their hostels too to avoid any further spread of the virus.
