As per media reports, BITS Pilani has emerged as the top institution for producing deep-tech startup founders in India. An industry analysis of engineering colleges based on the number of deep-tech companies founded by their alumni. The institute is placed ahead of IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, highlighting its growing influence in India’s innovation and startup ecosystem. 

As per the data, BITS Pilani alumni have founded 140 deep-tech companies, the highest among all institutions in the country. IIT Bombay follows with 136 companies, while IIT Delhi ranks third with 113. Other institutes in the top 10 include IIT Kharagpur (91), IIT Kanpur (90), IIT Madras (79), Indian School of Business (51), IIT Roorkee (44), Anna University (41), and IIM Ahmedabad (35).

The rankings reflect the increasing role of BITS Pilani graduates in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, robotics, space technology, defence, clean energy and advanced manufacturing. These areas are collectively known as deep tech because they rely on significant scientific and engineering innovation.

The achievement adds to a series of recent recognitions for BITS Pilani’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Earlier this year, the institute also topped the Avendus Wealth-Hurun India U30 List 2026 with the highest number of young entrepreneur alumni among undergraduate institutions in India. 

BITS Pilani has consistently invested in entrepreneurship through initiatives such as its Technology Business Incubator (TBI), Conquest startup accelerator, PIEDS, and alumni-led funding platforms. According to the institute, its incubation ecosystem has supported hundreds of startups over the years, helping students and alumni turn research and ideas into businesses.

Q:   Will I be guaranteed admission if I meet the BITSAT cutoff?
A: 

Students will not be able to confirm their allotment if they meet the BITSAT cutoff. However, they will have higher admission chances to their choice of course and campus. Since the allotment process will consider other factors too along with cutoff, the students will know their admission status after the seats allotted are announced.

Q:   Which campuses offer admission through BITSAT?
A: 

Through BITSAT, the students will be eligible for admissions into the three BITS campuses, which is in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. During the counselling process, the students can given their campus preference and it the cutoff is met, then they will have chances of admission.

Q:   Where can I check the campus-wise BITSAT cutoff?
A: 

The campus-wise BITSAT cutoff will be released by the BITS Pilani authorities. The cutoff scores can be checked online at bitsadmission.com. Students are advised to check the previous years' cutoffs carefully to know the score range that is required to have higher chances of admission in their preference.

The institute’s alumni network includes founders of several well-known technology companies such as Swiggy, BigBasket, Postman, Groww, RedBus and many others. Industry databases also estimate that BITS Pilani alumni have founded more than 2,200 startups globally, reflecting the institute’s strong entrepreneurial culture.
