Candidates who are getting 60 to 65 marks in GATE 2026 using the marking scheme will likely obtain a rank between 5000 to 10000. While PSU opportunities may be limited, students can still apply for mid tier or new IITs, such as IIT Jodhpur, IIT Jammu, IIT Ropar. Students can also apply at top-ranked IITs like NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal etc.ย

70 marks in GATE 2026
Candidates who have secured 70 to 75 marks in GATE exam 2026 will likely obtain a rank between 2000 to 5000. 70 marks in GATE 2026 are considered safe, and students have good chances to secure a seat in core branches like civil engineering, VLSI in ECE, thermal engineering, etc. Students falling under the reserved category have good chances to obtain admission in IITs like IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, etc.ย
80 marks in GATE 2026
Obtaining 80+ marks in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is considered excellent. Students with this score have good chances to being a topper. Students with 80 to 85 marks in GATE 2026, most likely to obtain a rank somewhere between 50-100. Such candidates have high chances of getting into core branches such as CSE, EE, ECE, ME, DA, and CE at top IITs - IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, as well as IISc Bangalore. In addition, aspirants have good chances of getting a call from top PSUs like GAIL, NTPC, IOCL, etc.ย
