IIT Delhi has signed an agreement with automotive major Sona Comtar to support the innovative startups in the institute.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced that it has signed an agreement with Sona Comtar to support the innovative startups in the institute. 

Under this agreement with the automotive major, IIT Delhi will receive mentorship and funds up to Rs. 80 lakh, with an option to retain IP (Intellectual Property). The institute has said in a statement that this is a β€œfirst of its kind industry support programme” in the field of mobility.

Talking about the partnership, Kiran Deshmukh, Chief Technology Officer, Sona Comstar, said that the collaboration will enable creation of new IP and innovative Make-in-India products.

"IIT Delhi wants to engage with the industry to strengthen startup programmes in academia as this is a good way to quickly bring new technologies to market," Professor V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said in a statement.

The partnership is an opportunity for innovation, design, and development of indigenous technologies, according to Dr. Anil Wali, Managing Director of Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FIIT), IIT Delhi.

Established in 1961, IIT Delhi is amongst the top colleges under the group of IIT institutions. The institute was ranked 2 by NIRF and 18 among BRICS nations in 2019. IIT Delhi is amongst the seven old IITs in India. IIT Delhi BTech admission is based on a candidate's JEE Advanced rank followed by JoSAA Counselling

For admission to MSc programmes, a candidate must qualify the JAM entrance exam. To get admission in MBA degree programme at IIT Delhi, a candidate must qualify the CAT entrance examination. The admission to postgraduate diploma programmes is based on merit. For admission to the MS Research programme, the aspirants need to qualify for the GATE entrance exam.
