IIT Guwahati to offer free course on Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence via NPTEL; invites applications
To develop a basic understanding of problem-solving, knowledge representation, reasoning and learning methods of AI, the IIT Guwahati has announced that it will offer a 12-week free course.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is inviting applications for free course on Fudamentals of Artitifical Intelligence (AI). The objective of this course is to present an overview of the principles and practices of AI to address such complex real-world problems. The course is designed to develop a basic understanding of problem-solving, knowledge representation, reasoning and learning methods of AI.
IIT Guwahati has organised this course while keeping in mind the growing usage of AI in every industry. โWhat does automatic scheduling or autonomous driving have in common with web search, speech recognition, and machine translation? These are complex real-world problems that span across various practices of engineering! Aim of artificial intelligence (AI) is to tackle these problems with rigorous mathematical tools,โ says IIT Guwahati. This is a Postgraduate Mechanical Engineering level course. But anyone can enroll in the course. The only prerequisite is that the candidate should know school level science and Basic Probability and Linear Algebra.
This course will prove beneficial for people working in the Robotics Industry, Neuroscientists, Psychologists, Research scholars in the field of AI. The course duration is of 12 weeks. The course will start on September 14 and end on December 4, 2020.ย In order to get a certificate on completion of the course, the candidate needs to give proctored exam on December 19, 2020. The last date to enrol for the course is September 21. The certificate will be awarded by the institute and NPTEL both.
Professor. Shyamanta M Hazarika will lead the course. He is a Professor at the Dept of Mechanical Engineering IIT-G. Also, he has an MTech in Robotics from IIT Kanpur; and PhD from School of Computing, University of Leeds, England. ย His primary research interest is in Rehabilitation Robotics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning. This translates into interest in bio-mimetic prosthetics; cognition and cognitive vision.
