IIT Guwahati Admissions 2026: Cutoff, Eligibility, Dates, Selection Criteria, Fees

Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. Further, the selection of candidates is based on the scores obtained by them in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) followed by a counselling round conducted at the institute.

The total course fee is inclusive of multiple components such as the tuition fee, security deposit, alumni fee, etc. Candidates taking up hostel facilities may have to pay the fee for it, separately. However, as per the unofficial sources, the total tuition fee for a two-year MSc course at IIT Guwahati ranges between INR 1.1 lakh to INR 20 lakh. In order to get admission in IIT Guwahati for BTech course, the student need to provide valid JEE Main score.  Admission to BTech at IIT Guwahati is purely based on the score obtained by the candidates in the entrance exam followed by JoSAA counselling. IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for MDes, including 13 seats for the General category. The institute reserves 3 seats for the EWS General category and 9 seats for OBC-NCL. For SC and ST, the institute offers 5 and 3 seats, respectively. This seat intake is as per the past years' data and hence is subject to changes. All the students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme offered at IIT Guwahati must apply for UCEED first, and then submit a duly filled application to the institute. Each candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times in consecutive years, and the score of the entrance exam is valid only for one year. To apply for BDes, follow the step-wise application process for UCEED demonstrated in the infographic below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of UCEED.

Step 2: Click on the "Registration" button and then on "Registration Portal".

Step 3: Register using a valid email ID and enter the required details and submit them.

Step 4: Log in to the registered account to fill out the application form.

Step 5: Choose preferred exam cities (three) and upload the scanned documents.

Step 6: Payment of the application fee and submit the application.

The JoSAA 2024 registration process started on June 10, 2024. There will be five rounds of JoSAA counselling. JoSAA released Rounds 1 and 2 seat allocation results and cutoffs. Knowledge of JoSAA dates 2024 helps candidates keep a check on the major deadlines, like the last date of registration. Candidates seeking admission in an IIT Guwahati MSc course must have a valid bachelor’s degree issued by a recognised university. Admission to the MSc course is based on merit in IIT JAM followed by CCMN counselling. The seat allotment is carried out based on document verification, seat intake, and category of the students, during the counselling. Moreover, the IIT JAM application process is carried out in online mode.

If you belong to the General AI category, the UCEED Round 1 cutoff 2026 for B.Des admission was 77. The cutoff rank depends on the round and category. Therefore, candidates must target a lower cutoff rank to have a better chance of securing a seat at IIT Guwahati. 

For 2023, cut off was 5959 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 11057 was the closing rank. B.Tech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

To get admission at IIT Guwahati for the MSc course, General AI category students need to attain a rank of at least 295, based on the round 1 cutoff of IIT Guwahati JAM cutoff 2026. For this category, the round 1 cutoff ranged from 89 to 295. A rank less than 295 would increase your chances of admission at this institution. 

Note: Other categories will have different cutoffs accordingly. 

The admission cut-off for Round I of UCEED 2026 was released on April 21, 2026.

This will be followed by the 2nd allotment on May 19, 2026. UCEED 3rd round of allotment will be declared on June 10, 2026.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati B.Des admission is based on candidates' performance in the UCEED exam, followed by a councelling process. IIT Guwahati B.Des cutoff 2023 was concluded after Round 3 Seat Allotment Result. As per the IIT Guwahati cutoff 2023, the Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks were 11 and 14, respectively for the ST category students. So, candidates seeking admisison to this institute must secure a rank between 10 and 15 to get a seat for B.Des.

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. Candidates must note that qualifying percentile for JEE Mains 2026 is the minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced 2026. For admission to NIT or IIITs, there is no provision of qualifying marks in JEE Mains 2026 and admission is given based on All India Rank in JEE Mains exam. NTA will announce JEE Mains 2026 All India rank in April after session 2 exam results. 

According to the released infromation, Candidates interested in BDes admissions at IIT Guwahati must go through the UCEED exam which is conducted by IIT Bombay. A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times.

Students must also pass all Class 12 exams with no minimum score requirements nor students have to give JEE Advanced.

Note: Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible. 

IIT Guwahati BTech cutoff 2024 has been released across multiple specialisations. Based on the Round 1 seat allotment, the BTech cutoff scores ranged between 607 and, 8400 for the General AII India category students. Among all the BTech specialisations, BTech in CSE is the most competitive specialisation. So, considering the round 1 cutoff, candidates seeking admission to Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati must secure a maximum rank upto 8400. 

A detailed course-wise IIT Guwahati JEE Advanced cutoff 2024 is given below for the General category students under the AII India Quota. 

To be considered for admission to UCEED 2025 participating institutes, the candidates need to meet the following conditions simultaneously: 

1. Age limit - The candidate needs to be born on or after October 1, 1999. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, there is a relaxation of five years. 
2. UCEED 2025 qualification - The candidate must have qualified in the UCEED 2025 entrance exam and must have been allocated a merit rank.
3. Qualifying examination - The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam (10+2 or equivalent) in 2023 or should be appearing in the qualifying exam for the first time in 2025.

IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process. Candidates are selected based on scores of IIT JAM entrance exam, followed by a round of counselling.

Syllabus of UCEED is to help candidates identify topics and subjects from which questions can come in the UCEED Exam. Understand exam pattern and marking scheme and prepare accordingly. Candidates should check the syllabus before preparing UCEED. 

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% to 70% aggregate or 6.0 to 7.0 CPI is the basic eligibility for the PhD programme offered at IIT Guwahati. Candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification with a minimum of 70% aggregate or 7.0 CPI can also apply. The aspirants must also hold the relevant documents as a proof of eligibility.
