IIT Guwahati Course Admissions 2024: Fees, Eligibility, Dates & Selection Process

Candidates seeking admission in an IIT Guwahati MSc course must have a valid bachelor’s degree issued by a recognised university. Admission to the MSc course is based on merit in IIT JAM followed by CCMN counselling. The seat allotment is carried out based on document verification, seat intake, and category of the students, during the counselling. Candidates who have completed Class 12 in any stream/ a three-year Diploma recognised by AICTE/ State Board of Technical Education is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. Further, the selection of candidates is based on the scores obtained by them in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) followed by a counselling round conducted at the institute.

IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for MDes, including 13 seats for the General category. The institute reserves 3 seats for the EWS General category and 9 seats for OBC-NCL. Aspirants must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board is the basic eligibility for BTech offered at IIT Guwahati. Eligible students can visit the NTA website (nta.ac.in) to apply for JEE Main. IIT Guwahati offers a full-time BTech programme in 12 specialisations, namely Biosciences & Bioengineering, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Science & Technology, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mathematics & Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering and Engineering Physics.

The total tuition fee for the full-time BTech programme offered at IIT Guwahati is INR 8 lakh. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories are exempted from paying tuition fees. Further, the total course fee will include other components such as one-time admission fee (non-refundable), refundable caution deposits (refundable), annual insurance premium, and other important charges. The selection criteria for the M.Tech programme offered at IIT Guwahati comprises a valid GATE score followed by COAP counselling. Aspirants with a valid BTech or BE/ MCA/ MSc/ AMIETE degree with 60% aggregate or 6.0 CPI can apply. The GATE application process is carried out online (gate.iitk.ac.in). Applications must be submitted within the due date. The GATE application fee for boys is INR 1,700, INR 850 for girls, and INR 850 for SC/ST/PwD category students.

In order to get admission to IIT Guwahati M.Tech course, candidates must apply and appear for GATE entrance exam. The GATE application process for IIT Guwahati admission 2024 has begun. The total tuition fee for M.Tech ranges between INR 1.1 Lacs - INR 1.7 lakh for Regular/QIP Students/Self-financed/Sponsored Students (Part-time/Full-time) who are serving as Teachers. Admission to M.Tech at IITG is entirely based on GATE score. Candidates with a GATE rank between 600 and 800 and a score between 400 and 800 will have a good chance for getting admitted in an MTech course at IITG. However, as the cutoff marks change for every admission year, hence, the number can vary. A relaxation in the required cutoff is given to the candidates belonging to reserved categories.

Candidates wanting to enrol for an MSc course must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as per the course's requirements. Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s degree in the Science stream with a minimum of 55% aggregate from a recognised institution. IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process. The last year 2022 cutoff ranks for B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Engineering at IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology other than General category were - 1033 for OBC, 592 for SC, 405 for ST & 430 for EWS. While the admissions are based on the scores/rank obtained in JEE exam, the last cut offs also change a lot depending on All India quota or Home State. It also varies if the applicant is a female.

The opening and closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For the General category under All India, opening rank was 7300 and closing rank was 7859. The cutoffs are different when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. In All India, the opening and closing rank for female candidates was 15079 and 15280. Admission to BTech in Civil Engineering in IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam JEE. For last year, the closing rank for BTech in Mechanical Engineering was 5088 which is very close to this range. This was for the General category under the All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this.
