IIT Guwahati Admissions 2026: Cutoff, Eligibility, Dates, Selection Criteria, Fees

Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. Further, the selection of candidates is based on the scores obtained by them in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) followed by a counselling round conducted at the institute.

The total tuition fees for MSc is INR 20,000-INR 60,000 at IIT Guwahati. The total fee includes tuition fee, security deposit, alumni fee, etc. Aspirants need to pay the course fees to confirm their seat.

Moreover, the total course fee will be higher and include other components such as hostel fee, admission fee, caution money deposit, etc. Further, it must be noted that the given fee is as per unofficial sources and hence is indicative.

IIT Guwahati JAM Cutoff 2026 for the General AI category ranged from 104 to 384 in the last round. Those who have a rank above 384 can opt for other institutions, like IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Patna or IIT Kanpur. These institutions had the highest acceptable ranks of 894, 795, and 900, respectively.

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% to 70% aggregate or 6.0 to 7.0 CPI is the basic eligibility for the PhD programme offered at IIT Guwahati. Candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification with a minimum of 70% aggregate or 7.0 CPI can also apply. The aspirants must also hold the relevant documents as a proof of eligibility.

All the students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme offered at IIT Guwahati must apply for UCEED first, and then submit a duly filled application to the institute. Each candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times in consecutive years, and the score of the entrance exam is valid only for one year. Step 5: Choose preferred exam cities (three) and upload the scanned documents.

The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Aspirants can apply on the CEED website (ceed.iitb.ac.in).

The rank needed for admission at IIT Guwahati would depend on the category, round and course. For the General AI category, the last round closing ranks ranged from 104 to 384. Hence, General AI category students need to attain a rank of at least 384 to be considered eligible for admission. IIT Guwahati cutoff 2026 for the SC AI category ranged from 676 in the first round to 2187 in the last round. As per this range, MSc in Mathematics and Computing was the most competitive course for admission, with the highest acceptable cutoff of 676. The admission cut-off for Round I of UCEED 2026 was released on April 21, 2026.

This will be followed by the 2nd allotment on May 19, 2026. UCEED 3rd round of allotment will be declared on June 10, 2026.

To be considered for admission to UCEED 2025 participating institutes, the candidates need to meet the following conditions simultaneously: 

1. Age limit - The candidate needs to be born on or after October 1, 1999. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, there is a relaxation of five years. 
2. UCEED 2025 qualification - The candidate must have qualified in the UCEED 2025 entrance exam and must have been allocated a merit rank.
3. Qualifying examination - The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam (10+2 or equivalent) in 2023 or should be appearing in the qualifying exam for the first time in 2025.

JEE Advanced exam conducted by IIT Madras. Candidates can appear in JEE Advanced two consecutive times. JEE Advanced is held in CBT mode and there are 2 papers in all. Each paper has 3 sections: Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates have to attempt both papers 1 and 2 to be eligible for admission to the IITs.
