Startup Master Class (SMC) 2024, the 24th edition organised by the IIT Kanpur Alumni Association, marks the first collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

IIT Kanpur Alumni Association and DST Team Up for 24th SMC 2024

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur organised Startup Master Class (SMC) 2024, the 24th edition managed by its Alumni Association. For the first time, SMC is being held in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. This initiative brings together Mission Directors from four national missions, potential investors, academicians from IIT Kanpur, and startups tackling technological challenges under the National Quantum Mission, National Geospatial Programme, Waste2Wealth Programme, and Cyber-Physical Systems Mission.

By uniting diverse stakeholders on a single platform, SMC 2024 aims to foster collaboration and enable:

  • Identification of promising startups by investors for potential funding opportunities.
  • Providing startups with mentorship, financial guidance, marketplace strategies, and access to additional funding beyond initial government grants
  • Improved viability and flourishing of startups in respective national missions for National Mission Directors
  • Deploying investor communities business acumen and funds to boost Startup vibrancy for key national missions for department of Science and Technology

Dr Abhay Karandikar, Secretary Department of Science and Technology stated “ This year SMC 2024 is focusing on key National Missions and Programs of the Department of Science and Technology. We hope that SMC will evolve into a robust platform for the collaboration of Government and Private Stakeholders.”

Dr Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur added “Startup Master Class 2024 is a unique edition which brings together the government, investors and the startups operating in four key missions of Government of India. It is a fine example of collaboration among academicians, investors, government and entrepreneurs to give shape to the translational research mission of IIT Kanpur. I am sure the event will prove to be a milestone in creating a vibrant ecosystem for startups, investors, academicians and government collaborating for nation building."

Rakesh Shama, President IIT Kanpur Alumni Association stated that “I compliment Jai Shankar Sharma and Delhi chapter of IIT Kanpur Alumni Association for organizing this unique event with participation of 500+ startups.”

Jai Shankar Sharma, Chairman, of the Organizing Committee, SMC 2024 and Sunil Singhal, President, the Delhi chapter of IITK Alumni Association stated that “ It is a matter of great privilege for me to organize the 24th edition of SMC at Delhi. SMC 2024 will forge a partnership between government and private investors to mentor Startups in four critical national missions. Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has played a pivotal role to take the Startups aligned with four national missions to next higher level.”
