IIT Madras & IIT Kanpur B.Cyber Programme

IIT B.Cyber Programme: Indian Institute of Technology Madras has partnered with IIT Kanpur to offer four-year Bachelor of Cybersecurity (B.Cyber) programme from 2026-27 academic session. The first batch will be admitted through a joint selection process. Students will have the option to pursue course at either IIT Madras or IIT Kanpur.

IIT Madras has joined IIT Kanpur's ongoing admission process for inaugural batch. As, IIT Kanpur had already started selection process earlier, IIT Madras will use the same shortlist this year. Students who qualify will be allowed to choose between IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur. Once admitted, they will study independently at their chosen institute, similar to a regular BTech programme.

Separate Degrees at Each IIT; JEE Marks Not Required

B.Cyber Programme admissions are being conducted jointly this year, both IITs will run programme separately on their respective campuses. Each institute will have its own academic structure and will award its degree independently to students.

Starting with future admission cycles, IIT Madras said they will have to appear for an aptitude test instead of JEE. This test will assess basic mathematics, logical reasoning and cybersecurity aptitude. Those selected will then participate in a hackathon that will evaluate their programming skills and practical knowledge of cybersecurity. Final selections will be based on performance in hackathon.

For 2026-27 admissions, IIT Madras will rely on IIT Kanpur's existing shortlist. Students participating in upcoming hackathon will be given option to select either IIT Madras or IIT Kanpur for pursuing IIT B.Cyber programme.
