JEE Main Admit Card 2026 & Biometrics: What First-Time Appearing Candidates Must Know
As per the reports, NTA will now capture Live photos of the candidates at the JEE Main exam centres starting from the session 1 exams, starting fromJanuary 21. Here's what the candidates who will appear in the January session exam should know.
The National Testing Agency will release the JEE Mains admit card 2026 this week, tentatively. As per last year's trends, it can be expected that the JEE Main hall ticket for the exam to be held on January 21 can be out on January 17 or 18.
First-time candidates are advised to understand one important aspect of the exam process: frisking and biometric verifications. Many students appearing for JEE Main for the first time are unaware of how frisking and biometrics work at the exam centre, which often leads to confusion and unnecessary panic on exam day.

What Is Frisking and Biometric Verification in JEE Main?
Biometric verification is a mandatory identity-check process conducted at the exam centre. It helps NTA ensure that the correct candidate is appearing for the exam. The process usually includes LIVE photograph verification, which is matched with the details uploaded during registration.
According to several reports, live photo capture will be introduced this year. To curb any or all cases of impersonation at exam centres, NTA will start the facility of live photo capture and facial recognition-based identity verification.
On the other hand, frisking is the process where the candidate is thoroughly checked at the entry gate of the exam centre. In the frisking process, the person concerned will pass their hands over the candidates in a search for any hidden items that are banned at the JEE Main exam hall.
Handheld metal detectors can also be used to check all candidates entering the centre to prevent them from carrying prohibited items like mobile phones, calculators, or other electronic devices used for cheating, ensuring a fair and secure test environment.
Thus, candidates are advised not to wear any item that may contain metallic embellishment. Also, avoid wearing jewellery items.
When Does Biometric Verification and Frisking Take Place?
Biometric checks are done before entering the exam hall, after document verification. Candidates are required to report as per the reporting time mentioned on the JEE Main admit card 2026. Late arrival may cause delays in biometric verification and, in some cases, entry may be denied.
Documents Required for Entry at the JEE Main Exam Hall
All candidates have to carry the following documents for verification at the JEE Mains exam centre 2026:
- A printed copy of JEE Main Admit Card 2026
- One valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, voter ID, school ID, etc.)
- Photo verification certificate - only those candidates who have received an email from NTA.
Important JEE Main Exam Day Tips for First-Time Candidates
Candidates should reach the exam centre well before the reporting time mentioned on their admit card. Do not panic if biometric scanning takes time and follow the queue system and maintain discipline. Inside the exam hall, listen carefully to instructions from the invigilators
