The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are considering dropping the Class 12 performance criterion for admissions this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read the details below.

JEE Main & Advanced 2020 Percentage Criteria For Admission To IITs Might Be Dropped This Year

JEE Main 2020 & JEE Advanced 2020: It is expected that the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) may drop 75 % board eligibility criteria this year for admission of students. If implemented, this might be a one-time exception for this year only.

This year, CBSE, ICSE and other board exams have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After which boards have adopted alternate evaluation schemes to award marks to students. This might affect the result of many students, as average marks will be given on the basis of best-performing subjects (for which examinations have been cancelled).

As per a report published by a leading media house, the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) discussed the above issue in a meeting comprising all JEE chairpersons of IITs. According to sources, the report further suggests that all the IITs might have agreed to remove 75 % board eligibility criteria for admission through JEE Main and JEE Advanced. It has been stated that if the same is implemented, this might be a one-time exception for this year only. However, the final decision will be made when it is approved by the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

According to the report, it might be possible that due to the alternate evaluation schemes, many students may not be eligible for JEE Advanced due to less percentage which may lead to denial of admission to IITs.

Currently, as per the eligibility criteria, candidates must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates or have secured at least 75% aggregate in class XII board exams (besides fulfilling other criteria like age, year of passing, etc). Relaxation is provided to SC, ST and PwD candidates.

As per the official exam schedule, JEE Main 2020 will be conducted on September 1 to 6, whereas JEE Advanced 2020 is scheduled for 27th September. Students can visit the shiksha.com to have all the latest information related to JEE Main 2020 and JEE Advanced 2020.
