KTU invites applications for Malayalam translation of engineering books

Teachers who have retired from service are also eligible to apply for the post. The last date to submit applications is March 27.

APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) has invited applications from faculty members of affiliated colleges to translate second-year engineering diploma books in English to Malayalam language.  

According to an official release, teachers who have retired from service are also eligible to apply for the post. The last date to submit applications is March 27, 2023. Interested candidates are advised to visit the official website of the university – www.ktu.edu.in – for more details. 

The All Indian Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has entrusted the university to perform the translation of second-year diploma books in English language to Malayalam language. The technical education regulator has also issued guidelines for translation of technical books as per which the originality of the book is to be maintained. The translation is strictly according to whatever is written in the book. There should not be any addition or deletion. 

For efficient and meaningful translation, one may have to rephrase parts or complete sentence. It is advisable not to rely fully on tools. They have to read each sentence several times for proper serinantics and context to the subject. 

The contents in the original English book are not to be changed. Slight grammatical or typing corrections, and table/image numberings can be taken care of by the translator. However, if there is any major conceptual mistake or discrepancy observed, all such major suggestive corrections in original contents can be summarised in a given template unit wise and to be emailed to coordinator immediately for further communication to the author concerned through the AICTE. 

The changes will be reflected in the translated book subject to approval of Competent Authority and thereafter, the same shall be communicated to the translator. The images will be kept as it is from the original English book. There is no need tobchange the text embedded within the images/figure. However, the external Figure Caption will be translated into Indian language. If the label in English is part of the image, there is no need to write Indian language and English both in the image. If required, Indian languages translation of that can be given separately below the image or in paragraphs wherever the image description is given.
