MHT CET CAP 2026: CET Cell Rolls Back Seat Acceptance Fee Hike; Candidates to Continue Paying ₹1,000

The Maharashtra CET Cell has rolled back the proposed MHT CET CAP 2026 seat acceptance fee hike. Candidates will continue to pay a uniform ₹1,000 seat acceptance fee during engineering counselling.

MHT CET CAP 2026: CET Cell Withdraws Seat Acceptance Fee Hike; Rs. 1,000 Fee to Continue

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has withdrawn its earlier decision to revise the seat acceptance fee for MHT CET CAP 2026 engineering admissions. As a result, candidates participating in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for BE/BTech admissions will continue to pay a uniform Rs. 1,000 seat acceptance fee, as followed in previous years. The latest development comes days after the CET Cell had announced a revised fee structure for seat acceptance during counselling. Following representations from various organisations and directions received from the Maharashtra government, the authority has decided not to implement the proposed increase.

What Was the Earlier Proposal?

Under the new MHT CAP seat acceptance fee structure announced earlier, candidates were expected to pay different seat acceptance fees based on the number of times they accepted an upgraded allotment during the CAP process. The proposed structure included:

• Rs. 1,000 for accepting the first allotted seat.
• Rs. 2,000 if the candidate accepted a seat after the first upgradation.
• Rs. 3,000 if the candidate accepted a seat after the second upgradation.

Why Did the CET Cell Take Back the Decision?

The authority had stated that the increase in seat acceptance move was aimed at reducing unnecessary seat blocking and encouraging only genuinely interested candidates to retain allotted seats. The CET Cell observed that around 35,000 seats were withheld by candidates during the previous admission cycle, affecting the availability of seats for other aspirants during counselling rounds.
However, after receiving objections and representations from several organisations, the state government directed the CET Cell to retain the existing fee structure in the interest of students. Consequently, the earlier proposal has now been withdrawn. With the latest decision, all candidates will now pay only Rs. 1,000 irrespective of the number of seat upgrades or acceptance rounds.
