Monash and Mahindra University, Hyderabad, have announced joint programs in Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering, which will allow students to graduate with bachelor's degrees from each institution.
Students will commence their engineering degree at Mahindra University before transferring to Monash to complete the third and final year of the program. Mahindra University students can commence at Monash as early as July 2026.
Professor Adrian Neild, Deputy Dean of Enterprise of the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University, said this announcement would benefit both universities, whilst also contributing to India’s National Education Policy (NEP).
"The NEP aims to promote an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to pursue their own ventures and contribute to the startup ecosystem. Monash Engineering, with its industry focus, and world leading research facilities, is the ideal partner to provide students with this exposure,” Professor Neild said.
Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice-Chancellor of Mahindra University, said this partnership with Monash will open a world of opportunities for their students, offer a chance to study across two continents and benefit from the strengths of both institutions.
“The opportunity will help our students gain new perspectives on the global knowledge system and its exchange,” Dr Yajulu said.
“This collaboration goes beyond just student exchange. It sets the stage for our faculty to work together, share ideas, and build knowledge that has real-world impact. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reflects our belief that education should cross borders, spark curiosity, and shape young minds into responsible global citizens. “Monash University is a world-renowned institute and this exposure will benefit our students. In accordance with UGC norms, we will be moving an application.”
Professor Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Senior Vice-President at Monash University, said these collaborations show Monash’s commitment to deeper engagement with India. “This announcement further strengthens the implementation of Monash’s India Plan, which was launched last year. The NEP 2020 encourages institutions to think beyond borders. Our collaboration with Mahindra University is a direct response to that call, offering students a world-class education that is both Indian in foundation and global in outlook.” Professor Jeffrey said.
