NIT Admission Eligibility Criteria Likely To Be Revised
The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has received a recommendation from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to make certain changes in the eligibility criteria for admission to NITs(National Institutes of Technology).
The recommendation states that there should be a minimum eligibility criteria for the NITs with 75 % and 70 % proposed as general and SC/ST cut-offs, respectively. However, CSAB is yet to take a call on the matter.
If the proposed changes are made then aspirants securing below 75 % in the Class 12th board examinations will be ineligible to secure admission in NITs, irrespective of their JEE Mains scores. However, for SC(Scheduled Castes) and ST(Scheduled Tribes) candidates, there would be some relaxation, with the cut-off for eligibility being 70 %.
Currently, for admission at NITs, aspirants need to secure 75 %(general and OBC candidates) in their Class 12th board examinations. While, for SC/ST aspirants, 65% would do the needful despite their scores and ranks in JEE Main.
NITs are considered the second best group of technical institutes in the country after the premier IITs(Indian Institutes of Technology). Every year, 31 NITs across the country admit as many as 18000 aspirants which is way higher than the 10000 candidates admitted by IITs each year.
JEE Main 2017 exam dates were announced recently. Check the important dates for JEE Main 2017 here.
From the academic year 2017, normalized score of class 12th marks will not be considered to determine JEE Main All India Ranks. This is contrary to last year where JEE Main 2016 ranks were calculated on the basis of JEE Main scores and normalized marks of Class XII in the ratio 60:40.
