The Self-directed Emotional Learning for Empathy and Kindness (SEEK) course will be offered to 6,000 students in the initial phase.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra has collaborated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (UNESCO-MGIEP) to offer Self-directed Emotional Learning for Empathy and Kindness (SEEK) online course.

An agreement was signed in the presence of NIT Kurukshetra Director BV Ramana Reddy. The agreement aims at empowering the youth while embarking on a journey towards social and emotional well-being through online lectures and disquisitions. A step towards the aim is a fully digital, self-paced 40 hours SEEK (Self-directed Emotional Learning for Empathy and Kindness) programme that teaches valuable interpersonal skills that are indispensable in the corporate world.

NIT Kurukshetra first NIT to offer SEEK course: Director

Reddy said NIT Kurukshetra is the first among all NITs to offer the SEEK course to their students and staff. In partnership with UNESCO MGIEP, the course will be offered to 6,000 students in the initial phase and the number is expected to grow exponentially over time.

He said the programme offers to inculcate skills such as empathy, mindfulness, compassion, critical inquiry apart from the cognitive skills that are usually the primary focus of most institutions. The agreement will help NIT Kurukshetra achieve its goal to provide holistic personality development to all its students.

The course is designed in the English language and is hosted on UNESCO MGIEP’s FramerSpace learning system. It is a science-based course and is endorsed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
