Diablo Valley College Launches Flexible 1+1+2 International Transfer Program for Global Students

The newly launched 1+1+2 International Transfer Academic Program (ITAP) aims to further widen access to U.S. education by offering a flexible, phased route to a bachelor’s degree.
Diablo Valley College (DVC), California has introduced its new International Transfer Academic Program (ITAP) for Fall 2025. Designed with flexibility and affordability in mind, the 1+1+2 pathway allows international students to begin their U.S. college education online from their home country, before progressing to on-campus study and eventual transfer to a four-year university.
Located in Pleasant Hill, California, Diablo Valley College (DVC) currently hosts over 560 international students from 58 countries and is widely recognized as the #1 transfer college to the University of California, Berkeley. The newly launched 1+1+2 International Transfer Academic Program (ITAP) aims to further widen access to U.S. education by offering a flexible, phased route to a bachelor’s degree.
Under the 1+1+2 model, students can complete their first year entirely online from their home country, saving significantly on housing, visa, and travel expenses. In the second phase, students transition to on-campus study at DVC with an F1 visa. The final two years are completed at a four-year university of the student’s choice, enabling them to earn a U.S. bachelor's degree.
Key Features of ITAP:
Affordable Start: Online courses cost $438 per unit and are fully UC/CSU transferable.
Visa Flexibility: Students can apply for their I-20 form up to one year in advance when ready for campus life.
Transfer Assurance: DVC offers guided counseling and academic planning for transfers to UC, CSU, and other top institutions.
Inclusive Access: High school graduates, gap-year students, and learners as young as 15 can enroll, with parental and school approvals required for those under 18.
Proven Format: Over 20 students already participate in similar online offerings each semester.
The program is not cohort-based, allowing students to customize their academic path. Support is provided through virtual orientation, placement testing, and regular online community events. Classes are largely asynchronous, with some requiring scheduled Zoom sessions in Pacific Time.
