Deputy Registrar assures deadline extension; JNUSU submits official letter seeking inclusion of UGC-NET June 2025 scores in current PhD cycle

In a major development regarding the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) PhD admissions 2025, the university’s Deputy Registrar has assured that the deadline to submit applications will be extended, following demands raised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU). The students’ body is also pushing for the reopening of the application window and an edit option once the UGC-NET June 2025 results are declared.

The assurance came after a recent meeting between JNUSU and university officials. In addition, JNUSU submitted an official letter on July 14, 2025, addressed to the Director of Admissions, reiterating its demand to include the UGC-NET June 2025 cycle in the ongoing PhD admission process. The letter, signed by JNUSU President Nitish Kumar, Vice President Manisha, and General Secretary Munteha Fatima, underscores the issue of exclusion and calls for equal opportunity.

ā€œIt was acknowledged that students qualifying in the UGC-NET June 2025 exam should not face any discrimination in the current PhD admissions,ā€ the union stated in the letter, referring to prior discussions with the Vice Chancellor during the hunger strike on campus.

JNUSU has urged the administration to extend the current registration deadline and take steps to allow students to update their forms after the NET results are released. Responding to these demands, the Deputy Registrar has confirmed that the deadline will be extended, and efforts will be made to enable editing and reapplication opportunities.

This comes amid heightened student protests over PhD admission criteria, with the JNU VC earlier appealing for an end to the hunger strike while expressing willingness for dialogue.
