CLAT 2025 Result Delhi HC Hearing LIVE Updates: CLAT UG/PG Revised Result, Counselling Dates & Merit List

CLAT 2025 Hearing: The Delhi High Court has reserved its judgment on the batch of petitions challenging the CLAT 2025 UG exam, concluding the arguments on the matter. The Bench announced that it will begin hearing the CLAT PG-related cases from April 21. "With respect to the PG matters, the Court will commence hearing on the next date, April 21," the judges stated. The decision on the undergraduate petitions will now be delivered at a later date, after due deliberation.

The Delhi High Court resumed hearing the petitions related to the CLAT 2025 results on Wednesday, April 9. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela is presiding over the matter. During Monday’s proceedings, the bench remarked that the Consortium of NLUs should “have better paper setters in the future” to avoid such errors in the exam.

In the previous hearing, the Delhi High Court discussed the questions challenged by petitioners in connection with the CLAT UG 2025 exam and the subsequent withdrawal of some of those challenges. The court had directed the counsel representing the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) to file a counter affidavit within two weeks.

The batch of petitions was transferred to a division bench of the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court to prevent conflicting rulings across multiple jurisdictions. Initially, the apex court had considered transferring the matter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, noting that the first challenge to the CLAT 2025 answer key had originated there.

However, the Consortium of NLUs had urged the Supreme Court to either consolidate all CLAT-related petitions before itself or assign them to a specific High Court. The Consortium had also sought the transfer of all CLAT 2025 result-related pleas from various High Courts to the top court, citing the risk of inconsistent judgments.

An aspirant appearing before the Delhi High Court had informed the bench that multiple petitions were pending across different High Courts and that transfer applications would be filed in the Supreme Court. Both the aspirants and the Consortium had raised objections to the Delhi HC’s earlier intervention, with the Consortium arguing that a single-judge bench should not have interfered in matters involving the answer key, which was prepared by subject experts.

What are Freeze, Float and Exit options in CLAT 2025 counselling?

During CLAT counselling, candidates will be provided the option to choose from three options; i.e. freeze, float and exit. Candidates can understand all options below:

Freeze Option: In case a candidate is happy with the seat alloted to him/her then they can freeze it. With this they won't be allowed to appear in the further rounds of counselling. If a candidate freezes the seat, it means that the candidate is confirming their seat at the allotted National Law University (NLU).

Float Option: If a candidate is not happy with the seat allotted to them and wants to pariticpate in further rounds of counselling they can select the float option. This option mean that candidate is accepting the seat allotted to them but is willing to pariticpate in further rouns of counselling for a better college. Candidate must note that in case they choose the float option and is allotted a seat in the next round then the seat allotted in the previous round will be forfeited.

Exit Option: During the counselling process, if a candidate feels that they don't want to pariticipate further, then they may choose an option to exit. If they choose this option, it means that they are withdrawing from the counselling process and they will not be considered for further round of counselling.

CLAT Hearing 2025: Impact on Candidates

The recent revision of the CLAT 2025 results, following changes in the final answer key, is set to significantly affect candidates across multiple fronts:

Rank Alterations: Modifications in the final answer key have directly influenced candidates’ scores, leading to changes in the All India Ranks (AIR). This could alter NLU allotments for many aspirants.

CLAT 2025 Cut-off Shifts: As ranks change, the cut-offs for various National Law Universities (NLUs) may shift. Some candidates who initially secured a seat might now fall short, while others may newly qualify.

Delayed CLAT Counselling: The revision of the merit list has already pushed back the counselling schedule. This delay may cascade into the overall academic calendar for NLUs, affecting admissions and onboarding processes.

Potential for Further Legal Action: Candidates dissatisfied with the revised results may seek legal redress, potentially prolonging the uncertainty and delaying the admission cycle even further.

Stricter Evaluation Protocols Ahead: To prevent similar issues in future editions, the Consortium is expected to tighten its procedures—especially regarding answer key objections and result review mechanisms.

This development has created a ripple effect, impacting thousands of law aspirants. Candidates are advised to stay updated through official channels and prepare for possible changes in their admission trajectory.

CLAT 2025 Result Hearing: What About Passing Marks?

While the Delhi High Court continues to hear petitions related to the CLAT 2025 result, many candidates are also wondering about the passing marks for the exam. It’s important to note that CLAT does not have any official "passing marks" or minimum qualifying score. Admission is purely rank-based, determined by a candidate’s performance relative to others.

However, candidates must score higher than the cut-off marks released by each National Law University (NLU) to secure a seat. These cut-offs vary annually based on factors like:

    • Difficulty level of the exam
    • Number of applicants
    • Seat availability
    • Reservation category

The outcome of the court hearing could potentially impact the result rankings and merit list, which in turn may influence these cut-offs. Stay tuned for updates once the hearing concludes.

The court has directed the Consortium of NLUs to submit a response, and its verdict could significantly impact the merit list and counselling schedule. If a result revision is ordered, counselling dates may be delayed or restructured, affecting admissions across participating law universities. Aspirants are advised to monitor updates closely.
