The Delhi High Court is set to hear petitions concerning the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) PG 2025 on May 2, 2025. However, it is now delayed and it is expected to be resume soon. These petitions address alleged discrepancies in the CLAT PG answer key 2025 and the resultant CLAT merit list 2025. The Division Bench will preside over the hearing, comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. The controversy centers on claims of errors in the CLAT PG 2025 answer key, which petitioners argue led to inaccuracies in the final results. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the INR 1,000 fee per objection, which some candidates deem excessive.

Initially, these cases were filed in various High Courts, including those in Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab & Haryana. However, the Supreme Court consolidated them and transferred all related petitions to the Delhi High Court to ensure uniformity in judgments.

In a significant development affecting thousands of law aspirants, the Supreme Court of India has stayed the Delhi High Court's directive to the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) to revise the CLAT-UG 2025 merit list. This interim order was passed by a bench comprising Justice B R Gavai and Justice A G Masih while issuing notice on a Special Leave Petition challenging the High Court's April 23 decision.

Candidate must note that in case they choose the float option and is allotted a seat in the next round then the seat allotted in the previous round will be forfeited.

CLAT Hearing 2025: Marking Scheme Explained

As part of the ongoing developments surrounding the CLAT 2025 hearing, the marking scheme has come under increased scrutiny. Here’s a clear breakdown of how marks are allotted and deducted in the exam:

    • Correct Answer: +1 mark is awarded for every correct response.
    • Incorrect Answer: A penalty of -0.25 marks is applied for each wrong answer.
    • Unattempted Question: No marks are awarded or deducted.

The marking scheme remains a critical factor in determining candidates’ final scores and, ultimately, their ranks. As seen in the recent revisions to the final answer key, even minor discrepancies in question evaluation can significantly alter outcomes for aspirants.

This scrutiny over the marking system is a key point in the hearing, with calls for greater transparency and consistency in evaluation—especially in high-stakes entrance exams like CLAT.

CLAT Hearing 2025: Impact on Candidates

The recent revision of the CLAT 2025 results, following changes in the final answer key, is set to significantly affect candidates across multiple fronts:

Rank Alterations: Modifications in the final answer key have directly influenced candidates’ scores, leading to changes in the All India Ranks (AIR). This could alter NLU allotments for many aspirants.

CLAT 2025 Cut-off Shifts: As ranks change, the cut-offs for various National Law Universities (NLUs) may shift. Some candidates who initially secured a seat might now fall short, while others may newly qualify.

Delayed CLAT Counselling: The revision of the merit list has already pushed back the counselling schedule. This delay may cascade into the overall academic calendar for NLUs, affecting admissions and onboarding processes.

Potential for Further Legal Action: Candidates dissatisfied with the revised results may seek legal redress, potentially prolonging the uncertainty and delaying the admission cycle even further.

Stricter Evaluation Protocols Ahead: To prevent similar issues in future editions, the Consortium is expected to tighten its procedures—especially regarding answer key objections and result review mechanisms.

This development has created a ripple effect, impacting thousands of law aspirants. Candidates are advised to stay updated through official channels and prepare for possible changes in their admission trajectory.

CLAT 2025 Result Hearing: What About Passing Marks?

While the Delhi High Court continues to hear petitions related to the CLAT 2025 result, many candidates are also wondering about the passing marks for the exam. It’s important to note that CLAT does not have any official "passing marks" or minimum qualifying score. Admission is purely rank-based, determined by a candidate’s performance relative to others.

However, candidates must score higher than the cut-off marks released by each National Law University (NLU) to secure a seat. These cut-offs vary annually based on factors like:

    • Difficulty level of the exam
    • Number of applicants
    • Seat availability
    • Reservation category

The outcome of the court hearing could potentially impact the result rankings and merit list, which in turn may influence these cut-offs. Stay tuned for updates once the hearing concludes.
