The National Testing Agency (NTA) will commence the JEE Main 2026 registration process soon. The link will be activated at jeemain.nta.nic.in, and all eligible candidates will have to apply online only. Once the JEE Main application form is released, students must apply on the official website. Early registration will also increase the chances of getting your preferred exam centre. Before applying, candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria.
The authorities urged students to get their documents updated and renewed before the registration process. All aspirants must check their Aadhar Card details, Caste Certificate details and the UDID card. In case of any errors, candidates must get the documents corrected. Speculations on the removal of JEE Main exam city choices for applicants during registration have been squashed. NTA has clarified that the JEE Main 2026 notification is not linked to exam centre allotment.
JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be Indian citizens. Foreign Nationals, NRIs, PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), and OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India) can also apply.
- Candidates must have completed/ appearing in Class 12.
- There is no JEE Mains age limit.
- No minimum marks required in Class 12 to appear in JEE Mains.
- Candidates can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12.

Who will set the JEE Mains 2026 paper?
An apex board called JAB (Joint Admission Board) sets the JEE Main exam. It comprises of representatives from NTA, IITs, NITs, IIITs and more. The government reconstitutes JAB every two years to ensure transparency and fairness in decisions. JAB selects the panel/teachers who prepare the JEE Main question paper.

What is the JEE Mains exam for?
The JEE Mains exam is a national-level engineering exam which is widely accepted at top colleges in India. Candidates who score high ranks in the JEE Main 2026 exam and have a minimum of 75% marks in their qualifying exam can also apply for admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Only the top 2,50,000 JEE Mains qualifiers become eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced exam.

There is no requirement of 75% marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Mains 2026. The eligibility criteria of minimum 75% marks in class 12 is required at the time of admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. You can apply and appear in JEE Mains 2026 irrespective of your class 12 marks. The detailed JEE Main eligibility criteria 2026 can be checked on the official website. As per the JEE Main eligibility criteria released by the NTA, there is no maximum or minimum age to apply for JEE Main. Candidates of any age can apply and appear in the JEE Main exam. The only criteria which is applicable is that the candidate can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12. For example, if a candidate is applying for JEE Main 2026, candidate must have passed class 12 in 2024, 2025 or appearing in 2026.
