IIM Indore has confirmed that CAT 2020 will be held as per the schedule and the students must not believe rumours of exam postponement.
Indiaβs biggest MBA entrance exam the Common Admission Test (CAT) is scheduled on November 29. However, with the number of COVID-19 positive cases rising across the country and the talks of partial lockdowns, containment, etc. among government agencies, CAT candidates are worried about what will happen on the exam day. Uncertainty related to COVID-19 pandemic has led to rumours and speculation on social media about postponement of CAT 2020. βWill I be able to take the exam?β, βWill the exam be cancelled?β, βWill there be proper safety measures at the exam centre?β β such questions are bound to arise in the minds of candidates.
However, IIM Indore, the CAT 2020 convening institute has confirmed that the exam will be held as per the schedule and all the COVID-19 related safety norms will be strictly followed at all the CAT exam centres.
βIIM Indore and exam delivery partner Tata Consulting Services (TCS) have taken all the necessary measures to conduct CAT exam in a safe and hygienic environment. IIM-Indore and its delivery partner Tata Consulting Services have taken measures to ensure implementation of advisory of the Government of India on social distancing and other preventive/protective measure at the examination centres,β an official statement from IIM Indore said.
Moreover, the candidates do not have to worry about conduction of CAT 2020 exam as the new COVID-19 related guidelines announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 25 will be implemented from December 1.
"States and UTs, based on their assessment of the situation, may impose local restrictions, with a view to containing the spread of COVID-19 such as night curfew. However, state and UT governments shall not impose any local lockdown (state/ district/ sub-division/City level), outside the containment zones, without prior consultation with the central government," the guidelines said.
The CAT convening body has already issued COVID-19 related guidelines mentioning all the safety measures at the test centres including, staggered entry, temperature check physical distancing, and use of mask and hand sanitizers.
The CAT Convenor has also approached the Chief Secretaries and DGPs of States and UTs for their full support in the smooth conduct of the CAT exam including permission and facilitating the candidates to travel with their admit cards as curfew pass in case of lockdowns or curfew.
The total number of test centres have also been increased from previous years to maintain 2-meter gap between students in the test room. This year, CAT exam will be conducted at 430 test centres in 156 cities across India. Every candidate has been allotted a separate reporting time to avoid crowding at the centre.
