CAT exam day tips

CAT 2021 exam is scheduled on November 28 this year at about 425 centres in 159 cities across India. As the exam day gets closer, candidates must be feeling the pressure. But they must remember that right now what they need is a calm head and self-confidence. And, it is more important that they are calm and composed on the day of CAT 2021 exam so that they don’t make minor mistakes which may lead to major consequences.

One of such aspects is preparing for the CAT exam day. Preparing for the exam day not only means that the candidates must be 100 per cent prepared to solve any kind of question. It also means that the candidate is aware of and follows all the rules and regulations at the exam center. These CAT exam day rules and regulations include:

  • Reaching the CAT 2021 exam centre on time
  • Carrying CAT admit card all the necessary documents of identification
  • Not carrying electronic gadgets to the CAT exam centre
  • Wearing clothes as per instructed in the test day guide
  • Following the instructions for biometric attendance and seating arrangement, etc.

The CAT test day guide 2021 is a very helpful tool for the candidates to familiarise themselves with 'dos' and 'don'ts' of CAT. For the convenience of CAT 2021 aspirants, we have listed down things that the candidate must and must not carry to the CAT 2021 exam centre.

Also Read:

CAT 2021 Exam Day Dress Code

Items to Carry on CAT 2021 Exam Day

CAT 2021 Admit Card

CAT admit card is the most important document to be carried to the exam centre. Candidates will not be allowed entry into the examination hall without the CAT 2021 admit card.

Each test taker must download their CAT 2021 admit card from the official website before November 28 and affix the same passport size photo as the one uploaded along with the CAT 2021 application form. Also, take two printouts of your admit card and carry both to the exam hall.

DO NOT sign the CAT admit card as it has to be done at the exam centre in the presence of the invigilator.

Photo Identity Proof

Items not to carry to the CAT exam centre

At the CAT 2021 exam centre, you will be required to present a photo identity card provided by the Government of India. A secondary identity proof along with the CAT 2021 admit card is mandatory so that the authorities can keep a check on imposters.

As a photo identity proof, you can carry any of the following documents:

•     College ID (must be supported with a valid debit/credit card)

•     Employer ID

•     Driving License

•     Passport

•     PAN Card

•     Voter ID

•     Aadhaar Card

This document can be a marriage certificate, divorce degree, etc. Also, carry a notarised photocopy of the supporting document.

Medical Certificate and Scribe Affidavit

Candidates belonging to PwD category will be required to carry a medical certificate supporting the disability claim and a scribe affidavit (on the prescribed form by IIMCAT) to the exam centre. All the documents will be verified by the officials at the exam centre post frisking. No candidate will be allowed to proceed to their computer system without document verification.

COVID-19 Related Items

Since, the CAT 2021 exam will be conducted as per the COVID-19 guidelines, several safety rules will be followed at every test centre. The candidates will have to carry the following items as part of COVID-19 protocol:

  • Two copies of CAT admit card
  • Self-declaration issued with CAT admit card
  • Medical Certificate (if required)
  • Scribe Affidavit (for PwD candidates)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Facemask
  • Drinking water in transparent bottle

Also Read:

Only admit card, photo identity card, mask, sanitizer, required Medical certificate(s) and Scribe affidavit (if any) would be permitted beyond the frisking point at the CAT exam centre.

However, candidates coming from far off places, must carry food items and other essentials at the exam centre early to find a place for keeping their belongings safely.

It is advised not to carry watches, mobile phones, wallets and other expensive items as none of the exam centre staff will take the guarantee of the safety of the candidate’s belongings. Stationary items like pen or pencil are not required as the CAT 2021 will be conducted online. For rough work, a pen and sheets of paper will be provided to each candidate in the test room.

Things Not to Carry to the CAT 2021 Exam Centre

The CAT conducting body has enlisted items prohibited at the CAT exam centres. These include bags, purses, pencil boxes, beepers, wrist watches, calculators, mobile phones, electronic devices, scanners, cameras and wireless/bluetooth devices. Any candidate found with any of these items inside the exam hall will be disqualified. Notepads or any type of written material is also prohibited.

Candidates will be provided with one pen and one scribble pad. They will have to drop the one copy of admit card, pen and scribble pad (with all pages intact) in the boxes at the exam hall before exiting.

The CAT Score allows the candidate to be eligible for most of the best B-Schools in India including the IIMs which hold the CAT Exam. The CAT exam eligibility has remained more or less the same in the past years. As per the CAT notification for CAT the same criteria will be followed without any changes. Aspirants should review the criteria, given below in detail, to check if they are eligible for the exam before they begin preparing. They should understand the factors and requirements to appear for CAT 2022 to avoid disqualification at any stage of the admission process. Moreover, candidates should also identify the eligibility criteria for the B-schools separately along with the difference in the eligibility requirements for CAT and the IIM.

The CAT score card is valid for a period of one year only. After which candidates will have to take the following years' CAT exam for admissions in respective institutes. Most of the Institutions/Universities in India accept the CAT score for admissions.
