CAT exam is the most popular MBA entrance exam in India taken by over 2 lakh candidates across India, every year. Since CAT has the highest number of applicants among all MBA entrance exam, it is conducted in three slots at multiple exam centres in over 150 cities.

CAT exam centres are well-equipped computer labs, where the candidates are required to take the test on the scheduled day. About 400 such labs conducted the CAT exam in over 150. CAT 2021 exam was held in 156 cities. Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) was added to the list of CAT test cities. In 2022, the exam will be conducted at 150 cities. Imphal has also been added to the list of test cities for CAT 2022, as per the official notification released on September 14. 

CAT Exam Centre Allotment: How to select CAT Test City?

For allotment of preferred CAT test centre, the candidates will have to specify their preference of cities in the CAT application form 2022. Candidates will be allotted CAT test centre in the city of their preference. For CAT 2022 aspirants, the number of test cities preference will be six. Here’s how to select preferred test city in CAT 2022 form:

  • Register for CAT 2022 on the official website: iimcat.ac.in
  • Once the login ID is created, use it to fill the application form
  • Go to the section 'select test city'
  • Select up to six cities from the drop down i.e. from first to sixth
  • Fill up rest of the fields in the form, make payment of exam fee and click on submit

CAT Exam Centre 2022: Important Points to Remember

  • The candidate will know their exam centre only upon the release of their CAT admit card
  • The exact location of CAT 2022 exam centre will be mentioned on the admit card
  • There will be a Google map embedded on the digital version of the admit card to help candidates locate their test centre
  • There is no provision of changing the exam centre after the release of admit card
  • The exam conducting body has full authority to cancel any exam centre

CAT Test Centre: Dos and Don’ts

Each CAT exam centre will have elaborate identification process for which the candidates have two hours before commencement of the exam. If a candidate’s exam starts at 9:30 AM, they need to reach their CAT test centre by 7:30 AM. For candidates taking the exam in second slot, reporting time is 12:00 PM. We have listed down a few dos and don’ts, candidates need to follow at their CAT exam centre.

CAT Dos

  • Carry two print outs of CAT admit card 2022, ID proof (in original) and a pen to the exam centre.
  • Show the original print out of your CAT 2022 admit card to gain entry into the exam centre.
  • Follow the instructions and cooperate in identification and frisking at the entry gate.
  • Use the Reference Number printed on your admit card to locate your exam hall, go inside and be seated at your designated work station.

CAT Don’ts

  • Do not carry electronic items to the exam centre. Closed shoes, belts, caps, jackets and other outfit and accessories with metal are prohibited inside the exam hall.
  • Test centre gates will close 15 minutes prior to the exam, thus do not get late for the exam.
  • Do not argue with test centre staff or other candidates. Unruly behavior may invite disqualification.
  • Do not use keyboard at any point of time during the exam or your system will automatically get locked.

FAQs on CAT Exam Centres and Cities

Q: In how many cities will CAT 2022 be conducted?

A: CAT 2022 will be conducted in about 150 cities across India. The list of test cities will be release by the exam authority as part of CAT 2022 application form.

Q: Up to how many cities an applicant can select for CAT exam centre allotment?

A: An applicant can select up to six cities for allotment of CAT 2022 test centre. They are advised to select home city as their first preference and five other cities where they can make arrangement of a stay on the exam day.

Q: Can I change my CAT test centre after admit card is issued?

A: There is no provision to change CAT test centre after the release of admit card. However, candidates can edit their test city preference during the form correction process.

Q: What is the reporting time for slot 1 of CAT exam?

A: Reporting time for Slot 1 of CAT exam is 7:30 AM. The candidates need to reach their respective CAT exam centre on time for smooth conduction of identification process.

Q: What if I reach my CAT test centre after the exam has started?

A: Candidate will be permitted to enter the CAT exam centre after the exam has started. Entry gates will be closed 15 minutes prior to commencement of the exam.

Q: Can I carry food items and drinking water to the CAT exam centre?

A: Eatables and water are not allowed inside the exam centre. Drinking water will be provided to candidates inside the examination hall by the test centre staff.

Q: Are shoes allowed inside the CAT examination hall?

A: Candidates wearing closed shoes will have to take them off outside the examination hall. Open footwear will be allowed inside the exam centre.

Q: Are parents/guardians allowed inside the CAT exam centre?

A: Nobody, other than test centre staff, security personnel and CAT candidates will be allowed inside the exam centre. Parents and guardians will have to wait for their wards outside the exam centre.

Q: Will there any arrangement for depositing bags and other personal belongings at the CAT exam centre?

A: No, there will be no arrangement for depositing bags and other personal belongings at the exam centre. Candidates will either have to leave them at the gate to find alternative options.

Q: If I get late for Slot 1 exam of CAT, can I appear in Slot 2?

A: Candidates can appear for CAT exam only in the slot and at the exam centre mentioned on their admit card. In case they reach another centre they will be turned back by the authorities.

Q: Can I show digital copy of my CAT admit card to gain entry at the test centre?

A: No, only the original printout of CAT admit card in A4-size sheet, will be considered valid document to gain entry. Candidates must carry two print outs of their admit card with their photo affixed on them. The photo should preferably be the same as uploaded in the CAT application form.

With 90 percentile in CAT you can get admission in FMS. For SC category the criteria of FMS is between 50 to 80 percentile.
