The new School will operate at the intersection of technology, management and public impact.
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with alumna Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon and her husband Ranjan Tandon to establish Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence at the institute. The School will be set up with an endowment of ₹100 crore.
Positioned as a first-of-its-kind School of Artificial Intelligence within a management institute in India, the new School will operate at the intersection of technology, management and public impact. It will focus on business-oriented and translational AI, addressing real-world challenges across industry, government and society.
Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan said this initiative reflects India’s push towards strengthening its institutional and human capital foundations in artificial intelligence, especially in the run-up to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
According to IIMA, School will focus on application-led, case-based research rooted in managerial, institutional, and societal problems. Its mandate includes translating advanced AI research into deployable solutions, frameworks and scalable systems that improve decision-making and productivity while addressing complex challenges.
The School will bring together faculty, industry leaders, policymakers, and global partners to advance research and teaching in AI from a management and governance perspective. Anchored in IIMA’s legacy of leadership and institution building, it will also examine how artificial intelligence is developed, deployed, and governed to create long-term business and societal value.
IIMA Director Bharat Bhasker said School would help prepare future leaders to harness data and AI for strategic decision-making and innovation. He added that the focus on translational AI and cross-sector partnerships would enable the School to make a meaningful contribution to both business and society.
Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon said the initiative was aimed at nurturing a new generation of leaders who can apply AI responsibly to address pressing national and global challenges. She expressed hope that the School would generate insights relevant not only for India but also for the wider world.
