In this interview Dr. Anita Patankar, Executive Director Symbiosis Dubai outlines how it is shaping its academic approach, building global pathways and strengthening links with industry.

Symbiosis International University has expanded its presence in UAE with its Dubai campus, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In this interview Dr. Anita Patankar Executive Director Symbiosis Dubai outlines how it is shaping its academic approach, building global pathways and strengthening links with industry through its flexible MBA formats, dual degrees and year-round engagement platforms.

Q. Symbiosis has long been recognised as a major private university group in India. What prompted decision to set up a campus in Dubai?

Dr. Patankar: Symbiosis started in India with a vision to support international students and build a community where everyone feels included. That idea continues in Dubai. Our motto, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning 'World is One Family', fits well in a city known for welcoming people from across world. We carry forward values that shaped us in India while learning from Dubaiโ€™s fast-moving education scene, where collaboration and practical learning drive progress.

Q. You offer programmes ranging from business and engineering to psychology and media. How do you review and update these courses to match changing industry expectations in UAE and abroad?

Dr. Patankar: Dubai is always working toward new goals, and that pushes us to stay updated too. We keep our curriculum connected with what employers are asking for. Industry projects, internships and guest talks help students understand what work looks like today and what it could look like tomorrow. Focus stays on skills that students will actually use once they step into their careers.

Q. BBA Dual Degree with Aston University has drawn interest from applicants. Could you break down how structure works and what academic or cultural advantages students gain from studying in two countries?

Dr. Patankar: Students begin with two years at Symbiosis Dubai, where they build a strong foundation in business and gain local industry exposure. Next two years at Aston University in UK help, them see business through a different lens and learn in another cultural setting. By the time they graduate, theyโ€™ve lived and studied in two major global hubs, which naturally develops confidence and adaptability.

Q. Your MBA programme offers morning, evening and weekend batches. What trends or needs among Dubaiโ€™s student and working population led to this flexible format?

Dr. Patankar: A lot of our students are already working, so flexibility becomes important. Our batch options allow them to continue their jobs while studying. Along the way, they meet senior industry professionals, alumni and leaders through platforms like SymbiConnects, SymbiInspires and TEDx Symbiosis Dubai. It creates a space where learning, work and networking go hand in hand.
