One of the primary reasons for delay is legal considerations. The Supreme Court has a petition for transparency related to the NEET PG 2025 exam for hearing.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counseling process has been a highly anticipated event for medical graduates in India. That said, right now, there is a chasm of uncertainty and precariousness for students concerning the delay of the commencement of counseling. People connected to NEET PG 2025 are wondering about transparency, how things are being managed, and regarding if the delay will impact students and the health care system. Those following the NEET PG 2025 situation should understand the reasons for the delay and the consequences that come with it.

NEET PG Counseling - Reasons for Delay

One of the primary reasons for delay is legal considerations or issues with legal factors. The Supreme Court has a petition for transparency related to the NEET PG 2025 exam for hearing. Several organizations and students want the NBEMS to provide detailed answer keys or other supporting guidance so that the exam process is fair. While this is important to maintain integrity and be seen as credible, it has materialized and delayed the counseling process.

It is also important to consider the National Medical Commission (NMC) pending approvals. The seat matrix is still under process and ultimately determines the number of postgraduate seats available across states and institutions. Furthermore, negotiations have yet to conclude that would expand the PG seats, which may add several thousand more. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) cannot start the appropriate allocation process without those approvals,โ€ said Gaurav Tyagi, Medical Counsellor, Career Xpert.

The delays are also due to administrative inefficiencies. Candidates do not have deadlines because the MCC has not made a round-by-round counseling schedule public. The uncertainty about seats, the allocation process, and the counseling in general has been even more difficult for students excited to start their postgraduate careers.

Consequences of NEET PG 2025 Counselling delay

There are several implications of the delay. First and foremost, it affects the medical graduates awaiting a seat. The counseling process is being held up, and more than 200,000 graduates do not know when they will actually start their academic and professional careers. Each day of uncertainty can have a disorienting effect on their planning and preparation, which will cause stress and frustration for them.

Q: ย  Who will be eligible for NEET PG counselling rounds?
A:

Candidates who qualify NEET PG exam with minimum cutoff marks as decided by NBE will be eligible to participate in the counselling. The qualifying cut off varies as per the category. To participate in NEET PG 2025 counselling, candidates will have to register on the official website, mcc. Nic. In. They also have to fill choice for college and course and lock them in the given deadline. Seat allotment is done based on different factors such as choice declared, availability of seats in particular college and course, NEET PG rank etc.

Q: ย  Has registration started for NEET PG 2025 counselling?
A:

Yes. MCC has started round-1 registration for NEET PG 2025 counselling on October 17, 2025. Registration can be done at mcc.nic.in by November 5, 2025. The last date to reset registration is November 5, 2025, by 10 AM. Complete counselling dates and schedule for NEET PG 2025 have been released by MCC on October 28, 2025.

Q: ย  If I will get seat in round-2 NEET PG counselling, will first round allotted seat get cancelled?
A:

Yes. If you will be allotted seat in round-2 NEET PG counselling, your round-1 allotted seat will be automatically get cancelled. In case you don't get allotted seat in round-2, then round-1 seat will not be cancelled. Candidates have to register online and declare preferences of choice for NEET PG counselling. It must be noted, MCC conducts counselling for allotment of 50% AIQ seats.

Next, there are pressures on the healthcare system itself. Resident physicians are integral to hospital functioning and patient care. Delays and postponements in the counseling process have a direct correlation with the number of new residents that can enter hospitals, which only exacerbates the workload of the current resident physicians. Most importantly, FORDA states that the physician shortage due to the delay in counseling directly impacts patient care.

Another impact is the financial and emotional strain on students. Candidates often use the counseling timeline to establish their residency and budgetary arrangements. There are also times when candidates put off making arrangements because of the timeline, and the candidates are sometimes unable to work to earn money while they are delayed and extended beyond the timeline. This combination adds mental and financial strain, as these students have schedules different than the NEET PG scope to prepare for other coursework, tests, etc.

The legal, administrative, and regulatory challenges delay NEET PG 2025 counseling. These challenges could even provide unintended/irreparable consequences for students and the larger healthcare system, despite how important it is to be open and provide equitable timelines for the counseling process. If the appropriate stakeholders can expedite the approvals and release the seat matrix, we can expect that the counseling timeline will proceed as soon as possible.
