Shashi Tharoor Calls for Immediate Reform of NEET PG 2024 Amid Mismanagement Concerns and Supreme Court Petition
Adding to the urgency, the Supreme Court is set to consider a petition today seeking the postponement of the NEET PG 2024 examination, currently scheduled for August 11, 2024.
Senior Congress Party leader and Member of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor, has urged Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda to take immediate action regarding significant mismanagement issues plaguing the NEET PG 2024 examination. Tharoor's letter, sent on August 4, highlights the severe difficulties faced by nearly two lakh aspirants due to inadequate exam center allocations and other logistical challenges.
Tharoor reported receiving numerous complaints from NEET PG candidates who are struggling with long travel distances to exam centers, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, limited ticket availability, and a shortage of affordable accommodations. He criticized the decision to administer the exam in two shifts with different papers, advocating instead for a unified, nationwide exam session to ensure fairness and consistency.
Adding to the urgency, the Supreme Court is set to consider a petition today seeking the postponement of the NEET PG 2024 examination, currently scheduled for August 11, 2024. The petition, filed by Vishal Soren, underscores significant logistical problems stemming from the late announcement of specific exam centers. While the allocation of exam cities was announced on July 31, 2024, the detailed center information was only released on August 8, 2024. This short notice has created considerable challenges for candidates in arranging travel, with many struggling to secure train tickets and facing rising airfares.
The petition also raises concerns about the normalization of scores across two different batches of the examination. Soren is requesting that the Supreme Court mandate the disclosure of the normalization formula to ensure fairness. Without transparency, there is a risk that one batch may face more difficult questions than the other, potentially leading to an uneven evaluation process.
Tharoor’s letter calls for prompt intervention to address these issues and prevent the NEET PG 2024 from undermining the future prospects of aspiring doctors across India.
