A rural management curriculum has been launched in Sikkim for students of undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The curriculum has been developed in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the Union ministry of human resource development.
The rural management curriculum was officially launched by the education minister of Sikkim, Kunga Nima Lepcha on January 29. During the launch, the minister thanked the Centre for the curriculum’s launch from Sikkim. He also expressed gratitude toward the MRNCRE for developing such an innovative curriculum for student’s benefit.
According to the Chairman of MGNCRE, Dr W G Prasanna Kumar, the rural management curriculum is a BBA/MBA programme that works toward promoting rural management and rural studies in order to enable the development of sustainable rural livelihoods. This unique programme aims at improving and equipping rural youth with management skills. He also added that the initiation of this curriculum has been done after the consultation with the best institutes of the country.
The rural management curriculum will not only promote rural studies and rural management but will also help in increasing the employment rate of the rural people in the public and private sector. It is believed that the literacy rate will increase leading to an eventual increase in the employment rate of these areas. Dr Kumar also added that the curriculum will bring a paradigm shift in understanding rural regions, both as a consumer as well as producers and contributors to the economy.
