Kerala Govt to Seek SC Review on Mandatory K-TET for Pre-2012 Teachers
Kerala government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the order making K-TET mandatory for teachers appointed before 2012.
State has opposed retrospective enforcement of this qualification, arguing that teachers recruited under earlier rules should not be required to clear a test introduced later. Officials said that move could affect a large number of in-service teachers.
Supreme Court had earlier upheld K-TET as an essential qualification for teachers, including those appointed before the test became mandatory. Following the verdict, concerns were raised over service continuity and salary-related issues.
Kerala government has said that enforcing K-TET retrospectively may disrupt school functioning and lead to staff shortages, especially in government and aided schools.
The review plea will seek relief for pre-2012 appointees while maintaining the state’s commitment to teacher quality standards.
