The move marks the second phase of NEP implementation at AU—following earlier steps such as the introduction of four-year integrated UG programmes like BFA and BPA, and five-year integrated courses (BA-LLB, B.Tech-M.Tech, Commerce, Family & Community Science).
University of Allahabad (AU) will offer four-year undergraduate honours degree programmes starting from the academic session 2025‑26. The decision was confirmed by AU’s Academic Council in a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sangita Srivastava and aligns with NEP’s reform agenda for flexible, multidisciplinary education
The new structure introduces an eight-semester curriculum, complete with multiple entry and exit options: students can earn a certificate after year one, a diploma after two years, a bachelor’s degree after three years, or an honours with research degree after four years. The programme will operate on a credit-based system, requiring approximately 160 credits, with students pursuing two majors and a minor—transitioning to a single honours major in the final year.
Syllabus design and evaluation patterns are awaiting approval from the Academic Council, while the Executive Council has authorised faculty recruitment and administrative restructuring to support the transition. AU has already filled several new assistant professor posts and streamlined probation periods for new hires.
The move marks the second phase of NEP implementation at AU—following earlier steps such as the introduction of four-year integrated UG programmes like BFA and BPA, and five-year integrated courses (BA-LLB, B.Tech-M.Tech, Commerce, Family & Community Science).
NEP 2020 mandates flexible UG programmes nationwide, with research-based curricula, skill-building electives, and holistic learning. AU’s full-scale adoption reflects its institutional alignment with credit-based, multidisciplinary education, and positions it among select central universities embracing NEP’s vision comprehensively.
