Anna University Certificate Course on Food Analysis and Inspection will be suitable for students and working professionals. The programme will be offered from July 2025 onwards.
Anna University’s Department of Chemistry, College of Engineering, will soon begin a certificate course on Food Analysis and Inspection. The programme will target students and working professionals seeking to be entrepreneurs or individuals who want to customise food designs without compromising the nutritional value of the food. Students who will clear the programme will also have the opportunity to become food inspectors under several government bodies, including the Food Corporation of India. Similarly, possibilities for quality control in the food processing industry are available, such as food safety officers in the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department.
According to the university, food chemistry is critical for understanding the molecular interactions of substances. It contributes to the advancement of better preservation techniques, desired at increasing shelf life while retaining food grade. Food chemists can experiment with new ingredients, change textures and flavours, and increase the nutritional value of diverse food products.
Meanwhile, to promote climate-resilient rural development, Anna University's Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management (CCCDM) has created a 'Gender-Responsive Adaptation Planning Toolkit' for conducting thorough climate risk assessments in agriculture and water. The project covers 36 gram panchayats for its comprehensive climate risk assessment, including Samsigapuram, Thenkarai and S. Ramalingapuram, Cholapuram, Melarajakularaman, and Gopalapuram, among others.
The assessment looked at agriculture, water resources, and socioeconomic elements, as well as indicators like climate-related hazard vulnerability, groundwater stress, and adaptive capacity.
